INSAS rifle

Pros

1. Lightweight
2. Accurate
3. Less recoil
4. Available in floding stock model
5. One model has selective fire from semi auto to burst fire and the black stock model has semi to fully automatic fire option

Cons

1. The finish on the Rifle is not very good
2. The magazine is made of plastic it breaks easily
3. The ammo is not very effective at long distances
4. Occasionally there is jamming problem

It is an ok rifle in my opinion for peacetime security but for combat situation where the weapon has to take a beating it mat not be a choice

I have fired around 200 rounds from INSAS on more than one occasion, thanks to friends in Army and Police. There is no shame in telling that it was all in the firing ranges. So no actual-world experience. But I liked the weapon. As "riflemarksman" has pointed it is lightweight, has less recoil (Thanks to 5.56x45 mm NATO Cartridge) and accurate.
I feel the most satisfying part was the accuracy. I was really shocked to see the results. I am no professional shooter but I was able to get 100% hits on the standard Army style targets and that too all above the abdomen, from the distance of 50 meters with ironsights. I was in a prone position and took all my time.

Users, abusers, ballistics, pricing every thing here. No use reviving😂

INSAS are nothing but a curse on Armed Forces, anybody who is infatuated by those pathetic rifles should visit Defence Expo and look at the stalls of IWI, Carcal, SIG SAUER, FN Herstal. I have fired approx 30k round from all the version including the black, metallurgy, Finish, Combat potential just fuckall, its a rifle which can only be used for max 2 mag at a time not more, 8 models from 5 versions are available, cosmetic changes, such a waste of taxpayer money and has many lives at stake, soldiers even lost their lives, very very pathetic rifle and believe you me should have been never for combat.

As suggested read the above mentioned posts :deadhorse:

Insas = Desi Sarkari = Apathy

Sarkari guys can make a barrel, you have to give them that, there is little else which they can do.

Seems IA has now taken on the AR platform, with repeat orders to SIG. Hopefully for the better. Shameful that the few dozen Indian license holders, did not get a chance to put up a Desi Rifle.

Wonder if they will ever do trials again for desi made equipment in 7.62x51, that would be interesting.
