Another edc I made as per a unique handle design which I have come up with. Hope you like it.

Why don’t you give us some of your knife making as a storybook. Annealing, forging, grinds etc ?

@Pistolero- I have not measured the edge angle but it should be around 25 to 28 degrees overall.
@ Vikram - I will try to work more on the finishing. Thanks for the tip.
@ Eljefe- my setup is still very ad hoc and though I plan to go professional someday I am content with making knives and improving my skill for now. I have made a Tim Lively style wash tub forge with charcoal as fuel and a sledge hammer head stuck in a log for an anvil ☺ . Not a very pleasent setup to look at. But I will try to post a work in progress with steps in my next one.

The blade and handle both are wonderfull.. I really liked the detailing with Ebony and wood in handle with metal rivets..

Thank you Shivaji sir. Actually the wood on the handle is rosewood and teak. The rosewood turned almost black after I applied around 3 coats of boiled linseed oil on it.

Did you check the edge hardness? What HRC are you at? Did you HT the blade or only grind it to shape?

If you can do this with a file, wonder what your primeval forge and anvil can do to some chrome steel and genuine Damascus 12ga barrel pieces I have in my scrap? Interesting thought. Sandwich , forge, fold and repeat.
I‘D like Sabre ground edge, and about 58-60 BHN please- my knives like to come up for a strop on a leather boot after a couple of fallow.

Hi Pistolero,
I have forged this one close to final finish profile and done a clay quench in water. Again I have not checked the hardness in hrc with a hardness tester. I do the file test after quench and the file skates across the edge without biting. After a lot of trial and error I have finally got a clay combination which works well.
I am currently working on a blade made from bearing steel. It is really hard to forge and has to be forged close to bright orange colour. I will post a photostory of the entire making of this knife.

Hello Parsha,

Glad to know you have forged to finish profile, this is really good. Keep experimenting.

The next time you quench, also test quench a smaller piece and break it , so you can check the grain structure, this will give you good insight into what you really have.

Bearing Steel is 52100, if you are forging from a bearing, it will take time and you run the risk of burning your steel in a coal forge, you can look at procuring EN31 steel which is easily available which is essentially the same, and can be found easily in flat bar stock with any steel dealer.

Having a proper heat source is critical, IMO.
