I used the M-16 as a generic term, because the M-16 has gone thru so many avatars, only a dedicated collector could keep track

AR15 (as in Armalite 15) is the original rifle name and has become the name of that family of rifles. M16 was the military designation when it was properly adopted (let's ignore the Colt internal designations such as model 601 and 603 and the XM16 variations for the sake of brevity). The M16A4 is as the name implies the 4th version of the M16 and adopted in 1998 and is currently manufactured by FN and Colt.russianshooter3 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 3:44 pmYep! but basic copy M4, not M16

Am I correct to assume Russians started making AKs in 223 for the export market (as compared to nations who were already making AKs locally but joined NATO)? I thought the 5.45×39 had better ballistic properties, all else equal, than the 5.556x45.

In many country making only 223 556 Nato cartridge and doing new caliber like 5,45 39 have no economic reason
And yes 5,45 better then 5,56 in ballistic, but its not ballistic question its more economic question
