Guidance for buying IOF .32 pistol
Dear Friends,
I am a new member to the community. I keep on reading most of the topics discussed in the forum and gained a lot of info and tips.
I have called the Kolkata ordinance factory yesterday, and they told me that i can collect my pistol on 26th sep and i should be there by 25th sep.
This is the first time i will be going to kolkata, so i would appreciate if some of you can guide me regarding what all documents i need to carry? How to get TL? How long do the factory guys take to issue the pistol? are there any close by hotels to gun factory to stay? what are the Do' s and don't s? etc..
Look forward for you support
Thanks
Bhaskar

Re: Guidance for buying IOF .32 pistol
Hi Bhaskar,
Welcome to IFG.
Documents you need:
1. Permission from your Licensing Authority for purchase of the IOF Pistol on their prescribed format
2. Your Arms License - original and Photo Copies
3. Since rules keep amending, you should once again call and reconfirm the required docs set from the Kolkatta arms factory
4. When I went there few years back -
Day 1 is for depositing the cash or demand drafts between 9 to 1300 hrs
Take receipts and go to Bara Bazaar or Lal Bazzar ( They will tell you) main Police Lines and fill some forms to obtain the T/L - valid for 7 days. Takes about 2 to 3 hours.
Come back to the factory Post Lunch Session and deposit the copy of T/L
Day 2 morning is for collection of your Pistol , Buy ammo from any gun dealer. And go back home.
Hotels: No hotels near the factory - at least when I went there last.
If you are arriving in to Kol By Air than go straight to the factory as is nearby. Deposit the cash and when you go to the main city you can check in and collect your T/L
If By train and you are on a budget than can stay in Peerless Inn in Dharmtala. It all depends on your budget let me know and I will suggest you hotels.
Hope this is of help.
All the Best
Paddy

Hi Bhaskar,
Welcome to the IFG. I would second Paddy on the activites listed.
You can check in to any hotels near the Howrah Bridge and than take a cab to go to the Kosipur. Cabs are real cheap in calcutta
I would suggest to buy some good holester also from Calcutta as most gun dealers have varities there while in rest of India it is generally taken on the availabilty.
IF you are going by Air you will need to tell the airliner on your way back that you are carrying a pistol and show them the valid licence and TL, they will issue you a priority baggaage slip and you will find someone waiting for you with your baggage when you exit from the plane

Re: IOF Pistol - A Newcomer's First Report
Hi All,
Sniper - I am sure I have the snap of the original piece but have to dig deep. Will do soon.
Thanks CC for the photo tip.
Shahid - so far no jamming or spent cartridge shell ejection problems,
no overheating felt on firing upto 10 cartridges in one go. Couldn't fire more.
Will report more as I learn more.
Thanks all
Cheers!

Hi Bhaskar, when did you book the pistol. I heard that the waiting period to purchase the pistol is more than six months.

Hi Lawman,
I really require a lot of patience to enjoy your new IOF pistol.
I sent the draft on 22nd Jan 07. I got the acceptance letter for GSF on 24th Feb which was issued on 13th feb.
finally i received my call letter only yesterday. So the wait time is approx nine months.
Hey can some body also tell me is GSF kashipur and GSF cossipore are two diffrent units or different names for the same place?
thanks

Hi,
GSF kashipur and GSF cossipore are the names of same factory. Book a prepaid taxi from the airport. It will take 20/25 minutes from the airport to the factory. The factory is very near to Dumdum railway station. If you have further quary you can PM me.
