Bluing & Rust removal

Post by Bullo oka » Fri May 11, 2018 2:55 pm

Hi, guys.
Can you guys link me to some bluing kit or rust removal fluids.
My IHP model 35 is all rusty, and I tried the lemon & salt method. Its working but slow and not much as I wanted.
I talked to the gunsmith & he told me that bluing will cost me more than a guns price, and for the reassembly of missing parts he will charge 3-4K.
And guys where can I find IHPmodel35 compatible piston, spring & trigger set, kovibazaar told me that "ihp has discontinued manufacturing air rifles so is isnt possible to restock the spares."

Buy a new rifle sir .
The amount of labour required is more In your project.

It's better to buy a new rifle and maintain its bluing with care .

Thats true Sathvik ji, but for the future reference can you guys suggest me something for the bluing or rust removal.
10kya has lots of cleaning & maintainance fluid spray &oil that confused me/ relishport & kiehberg has too costly or its out of stock items.

That's right sir .
For proper bluing you need ( I'll start from basic requirements)
Vice
Emery sheets (100 120 150 180 220 320 400 600 800 )
File
A gas heater ( for hot bluing)
Gibbanol ( a chemical for bluing)
A metal tub
Bluing solution ( for rust bluing that no one will give you even if they have )
Steel wool
Hot water for rensing the parts

If you have all those required components then you can blue your own gun .

The effort you put in your home might be double .

For rust removal use steel wool and a gun cleaning spray which removes all the rust .

I'm sorry for not supporting you in your dream project sir.

But because of years of experience in bluing field I have said like that .

You are right, I even barely understand the meaning (what they are) of solution and sheets you mentioned, and yep that sounds lots of labour and I'm sure it needs some experience too.
Btw can you link me to some effective rust removal oil or spray.
And some oil spray for my nx100black to keep it in good condition.
I already purchased the red and colorless oil from local vendor for 75/- 95/- (but I'm afraid, these looks too cheap)
Also found a solution for rust in amazon "Wd-40". Is this effective or are there any other better option.ImageImage

Dear sir .
I have 2 guns
A 1991 model double barrel shotgun
A 1930's BSA .22 RIFLE
Combined price of guns might be in lacs .

And I use ordinary dust oil ( used to flush my royal Enfield motor cycle ) to keep my gun clean .
The oil costed about 190 RS for a leter . I used it to flush the engine.
After that I collected that dirty oil in a pan and I use them to protect against rust .

That's the reason I was so specific about bluing and gun oils.

Check in you tube and Net there is a lot of bluing materials and videos. you can do it at home. IHP 35 Is a sturdy model. Still for the missing parts you can search at Gun stores. Mostly they have old damaged Air guns in their shop which is not fit for repair. If u r lucky enough then you will find all your required parts. if not then for the metal parts try to get it manufactured from a machinist or a lathe operator.
