Navdeep,
I started shooting with a Remington 870 and have had it for close to 8 months now. Did a lot of trap with it, and am still using it, and plan on getting my O/U early next year. The 870 cost me $210 and I think was a superb gun to start shotgun sports/hunting with.

I feel that it makes more sense to get an inexpensive shotgun first, and try shotgun sports with it, and see how you like it (the sport) and then decide on getting a more expensive one, like a Beretta or a Benelli. The salesman gave you good advice, you should definitely try out the sport first, maybe even pursue it for a while with an inexpensive gun before you get something like a 682.

My 0.02,

Naren

I am still looking for a used gun, my issue is time and effort in NYC of buying and selling. There is storage issue I have space for one gun only also and permissoin from SWBO. Beretta store I just wanted to go and check them out. The sales person remarked that he was surprised at number of guns being sold at the store. Its not the guns but they also have their own clothes / accessories / shoes. Incase you have to come to Indian Consulate in NYC its right around the corner from them or Tata's new hotel Pierre.

Thanks
Navdeep

oh yeah, I am sure it is a fancy schmancy place, the Beretta showroom. If I get a chance, I will definitely check it out.

I do understand the space issues too, I had the same in MA, where the law requires every gun to have a lock, etc. and I had a small place.

I have a bigger place now, and NH doesn't have MA/NY like restrictions on gun storage. Hope you find something good, without having to go through too much trouble.

What does SWBO stand for?

thanks,
Naren

Hi guys,

I guess you guys shoot American Trap, as I haven't seen any guy shooting a single barrel here in Munich, where we shoot Olympic trap.

And I have been learning trap for sometime ...And been thiking about a good shotgun for quite some time now. well, license permitting of course..

And my bit of research has led me believe that a 682 EX trap would be the one for me..

Two things I am still confused about is the High rib vs Low rib and Barrel length.

I always shoot with a 76 cm barrel gun with flat ribs..Few guys shoot with a 81 cm barrel here and very few with high ribs. But then I am not soo tall, and think 76 is fine for me.

And the best scores I have got is with a no-brand O/U which fits me fine.

A tip that few ppl gave me is pick up a gun, close your eyes, put it to your shoulder and point it to a mirror and then see yourself if the bead points exactly at the pupil of your eye in your shooting stance..Then you got a gun that fits you.

Regards
Ranjeet

thanks for the tips Ranjeet, and yes we do shoot American trap here, but most people shoot with O/Us, although some do use single barrel guns, since most trap is shot singles here. Doesn't olympic trap have both singles and doubles variations too?

I shoot singles only, since I shoot with a pump (single barrel).

Hi Naren,

Sure Olympic trap does have the 2nd shot allowed...just that no body uses a single barrel or a semi or auto gun here..
Though I am aware they do maybe prefer a single barrel in the US, because of less weight or wahtever..

BTW, you would have seen that 682 gold can be bought with interchangeable barrels , single and double..

Good luck with you search, hope you end up with something that makes you happy and better shooter..

After all the best gun is that which breaks the most targets :D

Sorry am a newbie to shooting and my shotty experience is limited to crows and staionary tn cans. Why is O/U prefferred to a SxS for trap shooting? I want to ake it up seriously and am confused. A little help from all you veteran shooters will be highly appreciated.

I guess you must have gotten a fair idea on the other thread - http://www.indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6330

I just thought I'd add here, in India they no longer allow the use of anything except O/U shotguns in the National Shooting Championship Competitions (Trap & Skeet events)...

Cheers!
