While on our farm today early morning I found this Rat Snake is out for its morning hunt........ and good thing was it got its pray.... a Mid size toad. sorry as i was not carrying any camera so catch this on my I phone but this whole episode disturbed the snake and it vomit out the toad. surprisingly few moment the little frogy lay still but then jumped away. the snake also leaped away in thickets.
as this is fruit season for crimson fruit, Water Apple ( malay Apple or jamrul), guava and lot of squirrels, fruit bats, birds and jack rabbits come for fruit and due to very close proximity of the jungles lot of other predators also come in the farms for their pray.
Today I saw a Jackal in bamboo thickets, few hawks and buzzards but before clicking them they were vanished.
will try in night to click some images of jackals as i heard that they roam around the fence after dark.............

Mundaire & Pistolero sir. thanks a lot but this is no where like old days when with a catapult roaming all around the jungle.

Added in 29 minutes 41 seconds: A bamboo thicket in the near jungle almost destroyed by the Elephant as they come for the Vegetables grown by the farmers.
Added in 4 minutes 18 seconds:
one farmer was leaving in a kachha makan long back just one side of this bamboo thicket. you can see the part of it ( A part of Blue wall ) at the bottom right corner. he was killed by the elephants and except a wall the whole house was grounded by the herd.
Added in 14 minutes 55 seconds: Main road towards Pathar Bhata, where our farm is located.
The secondary roads
Added in 5 minutes 40 seconds: Near by area.
Added in 4 minutes 36 seconds: Palash flowers in March.
This one and last four pics were taken by my friend.

Shivaji Dasgupta, what a beautiful place! The pix remind me of my friends place in Masinagudi (outskirts of Mudumalai tiger reserve). I also remember your very interesting post on tribal bow and arrows and I presume therefore this is in Jharkand. Great pictures, thank you for sharing

yes sir you are right. its in jharkhand. east and west singhbhum district. BTW sir Mudumalai is also a great reserve, I have visited twice but still wish to go there.

What a beautiful place! It should be kept untouched by industrial pollution and deforestation. How far is this place from the nearby city?
Such thick jungles, besides jackals must also be having some other carnivorous or herbivorous animals? In your second post, the picture above "Near by area" appears to have some house or building like structure constructed in the middle of the jungle, what is that?

My last night was west as it was raining outside. I heard some howling of Jackals but saw nothing. Today evening I will again go there for some work. Hope i will have better luck.
Goodboy_ Mentor, Thanks sir. its really a beautiful place. though it was deforested at large scale around 10/12 yrs back. but after that the tide of Naxal issue hit this area also. most of the stone crashers ( stone chip manufacturers), Brick manufacturers, River sand lifters and log cutters left this area. farm owners also left their farms. Now nature again playing its role. i saw Teak and Saal jungle is covered most of the areas. Bamboo and Mahua is also growing at large areas.
The Picture you mentioned is of River flowing mid of Jungle. as you pointed out, that area was a brick manufacturing unit run by Hemant tudu. After he was murdered the unit was shut down and now some barren land and ruins at river bank.
This place is approx 42 Km from city and due to thick jungle security forces also do not wish to venture in this areas.
Like You I also pray to god that this area should remain same as it is now ( irrespective of the reason responsible for people leaving this area).
Around 7/8 yrs back we have planted 15 trees of each for Guava, water apple, crimson fruit, wood apple, Ber (Jujube), chicku, Mango apart from Neem, Teak, seesam and Saal around the boundary. most of them are giving fruits now.
we have kept few trees of every fruit untouched as i saw lots of birds and small animals are depended on them, and frankly tale you that i am very happy on this decision. every time i Go there I saw lots of small children from near by village come to collect fruits apart of our winged and four legged friends.
I saw few types of civet cats, jungle cats ( i don't know its name but it lives mostly in trees), black bear, deer ( I think these are hog deer as they have very small horn and a brown skin ), Jackals, porcupines,Snacks, jack rabbits and of course monkeys. Elephants and wild boar are common in these areas as they come for food in crop seasons. Lots of birds, bats Squirrels etc can be seen always.
i saw foot prints of other deers (May be its a barking deer or Sambhar Deer as its call can be heard at night from jungle), Neel gai, other small jungle cats, burrows of otter and cats.
Local tribal people says that they saw leopard and Wolf come to river for water but I never saw any of them.
I am not a good photographer though i have some good cameras but never used them except for functions at home. Extremely sorry that the quality of photographs are not so good. will try to give some more pics.

Very beautiful place & very well described, it reminds of few places of my state where i visited for office work. though there is no extremist problem here but was escorted by local police with AKs & insas for 5- 10km hike in hilly terrain.

I am from Jharkhand , I roamed many places in this state.
I recall my early days when I used to visit Kiriburu/Meghataburu and Barajamda via Chaibasa.
I used to see same landscape there.
Nice to note , this state is still left with so much of natural beauty.

Welcome sir, I know that you are from jharkhand. and this is the same area you mentioned. Jamshedpur to kiriburu main road and then turned for Pathar bhata/talsa.
