Carry air rifle in checked in luggage by domestic Flight
I want to carry my air rifle by flight
I'll disassemble and put in my checked in luggage, will there be any problem to carry it like this.

Hi vast,
Plenty of information on IFG about importing air rifles in person, as checked in baggage. Please 'search' and check on the airguns section.
You could also, maybe, do an introduction when you get a chance.
Good Luck!

Don't ever attempt to carry any of your toys in the Domestic flights. You know the level of Babu's knowledge towards their own books. There are lot of threads in this forum where you will get more information.
Cheers!

I don't think there should be a problem on a domestic flight.

YES you canvast wrote:I want to carry my air rifle by flight

First call/email the airlines about your flight plan & inform them you are going to carry an air rifle. Get a copy of the mail mentioning you are allowed to carry, but for some unknown reason only 0.177/4.5mm is allowed.
You can carry it in a secured guncase or disassemble the air rifle & put it in your luggage.
After arriving the airport take a certificate from the airlines form the ticket counter & you are all set
Hope it helps

Dear Vikram, you disproved my post / query but what I had asked was different, My query was is there any shops or online retailers in India from whom I can buy imported air pistol without becoming a member...not what you replied about importing myself... as I had already read that's not possible...Vikram wrote:Yes. A licensed weapon holder should declare the concerned airline staff about the weapon carried. If license is not there then presence of stripped or assembled weapon in your bag you will be arrested and handed over to local police. but if you have a valid license then they will do formality of filling up forms and then charge you exorbitant Rs 5000 as special handling charges even if you are carrying registered baggage quite less than permissible 15 kg. All airlines have made a cartel for this extra earning. This issue can be represented to DGCA for some way out of this unreasonable burden levied by airlines on lawful and valid arms holders.

Yes Rs5000.00 is to be deposited after arrival at the airport at the ticket counter once possession of air rifle is declared.Basu wrote:will the air line charge anything extra over and above baggage for carrying 0.177 AR.
Since air rifle doesnot require license so producing of the same is not possible, but yes for satisfaction one can produce the invoice of the air rifle bought from seller/agentAlpha wrote:If license is not there then presence of stripped or assembled weapon in your bag you will be arrested and handed over to local police.
Thanks Moulindu

If you are a member of a rifle association/ shooting club, then Air-India will not charge for carrying a .177 air-rifle/ air-pistol. But even they will charge for all other calibre airguns. I have carried a .177 air-rifle (check in baggage of course) from Delhi to Bangalore and they did not charge a single paisa.
Not sure if they exempt (from extra charges) firearms carried by members of associations/ clubs.
Cheers!

A friend got my Canon AR form Calcutta to Hyderabad by Spice Jet some years back. Had to dismantle it in two pieces (stock and gun) .22. Had no problem. Was not charged extra then.
