Shipping an airgun within India
Greetings!
Hope you all are doing great!
I need your input/suggestion on the best way to transport an IHP .22 air rifle from Delhi (where I am working and staying) to Kapurthala, Punjab (my permanent residence). I would avoid carrying it with me in a bus or train as I think it's not legally allowed.
Any suggestions/comments would be highly appreciated.
Thanks and Regards,
Aman Thind

There are no restrictions to carry an air gun as luggage in public or private transportation by road or train. Just put it in its cardboard box carry it with you. Or carry it in a gun case/bag and if police asks you about show them it is just an air rifle and they wouldn't bother you. It is perfectly legal.

GNV is correct. They dont really bother. I carry my rifle in a bus every Sunday to the range. During competitions, I carry it in local trains.
Or if someone stays at Punjab, you can pack the rifle in bubble wrap and cardboard and send them by post. It's your choice.

Thank you GNV and sohampaul11 for the suggestions. I would probably go the courier route. Thanks again!

There is currently no restriction on carrying airguns as they are not considered as firearms. As suggested above you can pack it and carry it in your luggage without hassle.
As to couriers, I've used GATI surface shipping in the past, you can try them.

Re: Shipping an airgun within India
My air rifle was shipped by relishsports using Gati kwe and it arrived to me on 25th Jan. Though there is no mention of the word rifle. You can bypass this by using a different name. Maybe mention the name of the rifle only,as was with my case, and omit word like rifle, gun, pistol. The value mentioned was significantly lower than the actual value also.
