Be very careful while firing , ensure you dont use any super loads etc keeping in mind age of these revolver. SO have it thoroughly examined before firing it. Also remember US dealers cant ship gun parts out of US any more, its prohibited. If there was ultrasonic way of checking barrel etc like engineers do for materials boy I would have it done. I hope you dont take this in wrong way just my 2c

Yes thanks again. I intend to get it checked from a good gunsmith before firing.

Also if it breaks, I can return it and ask for a similar calibre handgun.....will have to wait a bit though!!!

from where you will buy ammo for pistol?.gundealers doesnt deal in pbore ammo unless you got lic from MHA

army persons are facing trials in courts who sold their weaponss like m1 grand
my query was just simple if its 38/200 then you have to obtain pbore lic in order to buy ammo for your revolver

@gladiator...was lucky...one of the offrs in my unit transferred it to me as he is retiring next year....he waited 7 yrs to get it.

Very nice. That is not even a firearm in America since it is before 1899. It is the same as a toy. I have a buddy that would love that in his collection.

Age old question....can i fire the iof .380 ammo in lieu of .38 long colt....those are tough to come by

Sir, i think as per new MHA letter on arms act you can apply for PB licence through your state govt home dept.. you can download the letter from intranet ofMGO BR. I think u should go and meet the home secy of your state and aplly along with the copy of the letter. I just got M1US carbine and i got the licence too. I think i must be the only guy who got NSP carbine after 30 yrs.

First a very nice weapon. It's not an 1889 New Army, but an 1895 as shown by the cylinder locking bolt notches in the cylinder. The 1889 locked at ther ear of the cylinder like the 1877 Lightning. Secondly it's not chambered for a .38 Special, but for the .38 Long Colt which originally used a heeled bullet (like the modern .22) but later used a hollow based bullet of .358 diameter. You would most likely be safe shooting .38 Special Hollow Based Wad Cutters, but I'd be leary of using regular full power .38 Special Loads.
