Attempts at Knifemaking: my first 2 in mumbai

Post by astronomy.domaine » Tue Dec 01, 2015 1:02 am

Hi Folks,
Been a while.. and hope y'all doing great ...was totally caught up with the rigors of settling in a new job and a new city. now with my feet somewhat firmly placed on Mumbai soil, I would like to share two pieces which I have just completed (my first two in Mumbai!). Had done most of the grinding and shaping back home and completed the final dress-up here. without any tools what so ever and just sandpaper and the knives themselves, the woodwork and cosmetics are a bit shoddy,, so my apologies in advance.
here are a curved clip point skinning/hunting blade and a short stubby double edged dagger. As always, comments and suggestions are most welcome...:-)

I second Kshitij.

Great work, as usual, by the way!

You mentioned you'll be in Powai. Whereabouts? My day job is in that area.
Cheers!

Hi Astro!
First of all...."Welcome to Mumbai"!!!!!
The blades are 'awesome' man, especially the 'dagger'....
We understand your preoccupation with 'settling down' in the city that virtually never sleeps.....
Nevertheless do give us a buzz - Looking forward to meeting you asap!!!!

Yes! The earlier the better :D
Here's my 2 cents worth 'Jugad'.....
Get a foot length of bicycle tube & staple to it the same length / width of sand paper (grit of your choice & need)...
Clamp the blade using a vice or 'C' clamp & do 'Toweling' motions on the blade all through & see the finish you get :D
The rubber bicycle tube backing provides the 'even pressure' & that bouncy feel all through the sanding process and also an admirable evenness all along the blade (my FS blades are proof of this 'jugad')
Cheers!!!!

Beautiful craftsmanship. Liked both of them. Beautiful in one word.
On the other hand I don't want to loose the opportunity to meet the gang as I stay at Chandivali very near to Hiranandani Garden extn.
Please let me know if the meet is over or going to happen as I can meet some of you.

AD, my office is in Hiranandani Gardens, close to the chaps who help make our teeth whiter. About a rifle shot from Lake Homes, too.

Sending you PM with my contacts.
Cheers!

Cannot see the photo. You can attach it to your post as an attachment. Look at the bottom of the post for the relevant tab.
