Hello from Germany
Hello IFG Forum,
my name is Michael, i am living in Germany but will relocate to Pune in January.
I am born 1965 and work in the IT-field (who would have guessed that )
I have a gun-license since more than 20 years and currently own a
Bruenner CZ75 9mm, a Ruger GP100 .357Mag and a rifle K98 with .308Win (7,62x51) and just started to shoot with a Benelli M3 12/76 semi-automatic.
During army-service (it was mandatory at that time for 15months) i used some more weapons.
No i am also wondering if i have any chance to bring my guns legally to India, by entering a local gun-club in Pune and get a recommendation letter and then apply for a permit ?
I was pointed to your website by the website of Mr. Abhijeet Singh when i searched for "guns and law in India".
My other hobbies are scuba-diving and sailing and i am a licensed amateur-radio operator.
That?s it for the moment.
Now i will browse some more in your forum.

Hi Michael,
Welcome to IFG.
I am not sure if you could bring a gun down to India but check with the Indian Embassy and mention the type of firearm and calibre you wish to bring down as we do have restrictions on the type of calibres that Indian citizens can hold without going through a very laborious process. You may be limited to 50 rounds.
Pune does does have a shooting club and one of our Pune based members should be able to guide you better.
Best wishes.

Welcome to IFG. Your Bruenner CZ75 9mm will not be allowed, its a prohibited bore. Other P bore's that I know of are .38 cal, .45, 5.56mm, 7.62.
As long as your K98 has .308Win stamped on the barrel and your licence, you should not have a problem
Do not think it is a good idea bring your Benelli M3 semi auto..
I did hear of a German couple who I think worked for the Indo-German chamber of commerce in Mumbai, they had got their firearms with them. So am sure you can bring in some of your firearms.

Michael, de vu2 xtc, handle ACE.
Welcome aboard.Guess you will have to try very hard to get in your guns here, major problems , you own a lot of 'verboten' weapons-the 9mm, semi auto shotgun, and the 7.62.if its made in Germany, I am sure it will have the caliber stamped in metric 7.62mm, aha-take him away and lock him up...
I am a gun freak, into amateur radio and a PADI certified open water diver.Have done rescue, but yet to go and collect my card...usual of me! I wish I could be here all the time, but for a living, I have to work as an ER physician.
Hope to see you often

Hmmm i have to check, maybe .308Win is on the rifle and nobody would suspect that it?s the same as 7,62
But then there is still the problem of ammunition.
My Amateur-callsign is DB8US and it looks much easier to apply for a radio-license once i have a permanent adress.
So if i can not bring my gns, we might at least meet on the air.
Do you know if there is any cave-diving done ?
I have checked that i can leave the guns with my brother, when i lock them in a safe and take the keys with me.
So maybe i FIRST move there and talk to the authorities instead of just "showing up with guns" when i am relocating
Thanks to everyone for the good advice !

Hello Michael,
Even if you cannot take your guns to India with you, you should be able to get some shooting when you're there. Just meet some of the members on the IFG and have fun. Most rifle clubs allow you to borrow club guns and shoot them, but this is only for 22 lrs.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy your stay in India,
Mehul

Not sure about Poona but in Bangalore you need to be a member before you can borrow a firearm or even shoot your own at the range.mehulkamdar wrote:Most rifle clubs allow you to borrow club guns and shoot them, but this is only for 22 lrs.
I have drawn Zubin's attention to this thread, so unless he is out of station we will soon learn what the shooting situation in Poona is like.

Re: Hello from Germany
Hi ,
Even in Delhi you first need to become a member of Tuglakabad and only then are you allowed inside. Also you need to show a valid Indian arms licence with the weapon endorsed on it and only then can you hire out the same weapon.
If you a have a pistol endorsed , you cannot get a weapon to shoot skeet/trap.
Cheers Rohit.

Re: Hello from Germany
Considering most target shooters apply for a licence only after they have tried a few firearm disciplines and decided what they would like to pursue and then buy the appropriate firearm, that is a stupid and restrictive policy. Also you need to show a valid Indian arms licence with the weapon endorsed on it and only then can you hire out the same weapon.
If you a have a pistol endorsed , you cannot get a weapon to shoot skeet/trap.
Fortunately, this is not the case at all shooting clubs. Infact, this is the first time I have heard of such a policy.
