So since the stock of the Hurricane AR is already ugly and nothing I do would make it look any worse, I decided to see if I could make it more convenient for me to use utilizing my limited wood working skills. Have a few pieces of teak wood. So using a saw, Dremel Moto Tool, an Xacto Craft Knife set and Sanding Bars managed to make a Spacer to increase center pull length, Cheek Piece and a Pistol Grip attachment as shown in the photos. Filled the hollow butt with wood blocks so that cheek piece fitting screws will have solid anchor places and fitted the Spacer and cheek Piece in place. The pistol grip piece needs more shaping and sanding.
Hi GNV,
Good & Innovative attempt on the stock & pistol grip!
Awaiting the final fitment & your final assessment.....

Kshitij,
Now the gun is more comfortable to shoot. When I mount the gun now I see a nice sight of the reticle everytime without having to move my head up or down or sideways. Today I am working on the Pistol Grip Piece.
I too am impatiently waiting to do the chrono and accuracy tests now because I would be free for a week now. But the weather is preventing me. Now since the early hours of the morning there is a steady drizzle of rain and it seems it would hold for at least 48 hrs.
I liked the shooting rest posted by Trajeev and took a photo print and gave it to a workshop friend along with the dimensions I want. He promised to make it and give it to me by tomorrow evening.
I intend to test the Hurricane for accuracy at 10, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 yards with the stock spring using the rest. More than 600 pellets were shot through the Hurricane so far and it should be broken in for proper accuracy tests.

Good to gear that. The functionality is more important, and if it looks good too, thats bonus!
For the chrony and accuracy test, use quality pellets if possible, that way atleast the inconsistent pellet weight and dimensions can be ruled out. I have found JSBs to suit most of my air guns really well and also managed half inch groups at 60yards with them consistently.
Also, that rifle rest design is good but i guess spring air rifles shouldn't be clamped down really tight and should be held in a light manner so i would suggest using sand bags instead of a rifle rest would be more suitable.
*just my 2 cents
Cheers.

Kshitij,
I don't intend to heavily clamp down the rifle in the shooting rest. I intend to use it to hold the gun securely in position. I'll use both the stand and sand bags to see the difference. I intend to use the following pellets for chrono and accuracy tests.
1. JSB JUMBO EXACT 15.89 Gr.
2. JSB JUMBO EXACT EXPRESS 14.35 gr
3. H&N FTT 14.66 gr
4. Precipell 15 gr
5. G Smith HIGH FORCE 14.95 gr ( these are highly irregular in dimensions and pretty poor fit in the breach but gave surprising accuracy at 19 yards in the first accuracy test with the gun out of box. They perform very poorly in my broken in NP fitted ORION ).
6. MARVELLOUS DIANA SOT RH 11.3 gr and 7. Master Shot HUNTER PH 12.25 gr ( these two gave the Highest FPS during the first chrono test ).
Except the GSmith pellets all other pellets fit very well in the breach.
From my first test I feel the JSB Jumbo express would take first place in accuracy at all ranges followed by JSB Jumbos. Let us see.
BTW JSBs are also my most favorite pellets.
Finished my tinkering with the stock modifications. Glued the Pistol Grip piece using epoxy to the PG sanded it to the shape I felt comfortable to shoot.
Photos are below. Please tell me which finish would look good in your opinion. Touch Wood Polish or Matt Black Paint. The wood is teak.

Hi GNV,
A good sorting of pellet you got there. I guess it is a good idea to include Indian pellets too in the tests as that is what most will use with this gun. I hope the weather clears up soon at your end
As for the stock, if I were to vote I'd go with the wood finish as it contrasts well against the black of the stock. Do not paint the wood pieces black.

Hi GNV,
Excellent job (wood work) of the Butt & Pistol grip....
Please leave the wood fixture as is (natural tint) will be a good visual contrast with the black synthetic - you may put on a teak wood tint & wax it later for a final finish....
The fitment of pellets vary because of the Brit vs German standards ie: 5.5mm & 5,56mm - depends on what dimension AARMR has used....
Awaiting the test results>>>>>

Typical fine work by GNV Garu! Looks nice too.. I suppose letting the wood retain its natural shade would be good.
Given below is a picture of the modified trigger the manufacturer sent me. The new (red) trigger is removed by 15mm from the older location (yellow). The update can be retrofitted to the older trigger.
GNV Garu can you kindly revert to my pm in your inbox? Need your feedback regarding the same.
They're also designing an adjustable cheek support which can be added on to the older one to overcome the problem faced by GNV garu.

I purchased 5 tins of GSmith High Force Pellets from kovibazaar.com when I purchased my first ORION back in 2012. Most of the pellets have irregular dimensions and the head fit in the barrel is very tight had to be forced in. The skirt also sticks out of the breach by about .75 mm. It was like that in both my ORIONS and also my Hurricane. May be a bad batch. But I never purchased any GSmiths after that. I purchase several tins at a time to save on shipping charges and can't take chances when buying from online stores because I can not return the goods if I find them faulty.
The weatherman says it will remain like this for at least another 48 hrs.kshitij wrote:Hi GNV,

@GNV great going !! I have recently used rsw superdomes 14.5 in my Orion and I found them to be of excellent fit in it and they performed consistently well outperforming precipells ! They come at a reasonable price as well for a imported pellet .

Thats a good news, they seem to have done exactly the way I suggested on 27oct. Happy that these guys accept suggestions quite humbly.main13 wrote:Typical fine work by GNV Garu! Looks nice too.. I suppose letting the wood retain its natural shade would be good.

Hi all
I mentioned as to hurry in my purchase is only due to the knowledge I understood from another thread on Arms licences to be updated and taking under its ambit licence is mandatory for ARs as well.
I am a simple family guy but very good shooter with AR. .and wanted to further cherish my perfect shooting.
As I am humble bread earner for my family. .I was only concern was these AARMR guys do not increase the selling price by Hugh margins.
Or any other really good alternative is available...I would be buying only for once an AR...but maybe in future I will surely buy more ....

Yes! I "chewed some brains" about that as well..ganeshn wrote: Thats a good news, they seem to have done exactly the way I suggested on 27oct. Happy that these guys accept suggestions quite humbly.

I have very small palm size so trigger fits me perfectly fine, but the concerns of the rest of the world must be considered as well.
As far as I know, the trigger needs more polishing, anything else you would suggest?
Don't worry bhau, this is India.. Nothing to worry about.Maheshzarkar wrote:Hi all

Take your time, check it out.
Read, experiment, explore, test.
Buy that which suits you best!
The lawmakers' law-making minions (read secretaries in ministries) are too lazy, the lawmakers being lazier still. Right now the govt is busy fighting seditious netas seeking enemy's help to upstage them, then come GST, GAAR, UP & WB state elections etc... As you can see, no one is too bothered about attending to the whims of a particular frustrated minister aunty hell bent upon making people's life miserable... Even if they do so, they can NEVER enforce it successfully, take my word on that. A law is only as good as its enforcement!
As far as price is concerned, I'll see what can be done about it. Bulk buys have a certain influence in business.
Price hike(inflation) is always much more due to retailers & hoarders than bulk suppliers & original equipment manufacturers(OEMs). Kovibazar sells the same gun for 9350 while local dealers are selling it for 14000; AARMR sells it@8000! I don't think that scenery will change much.

Before you follow any ones advice, including mine, i suggest you read the draft of the amendment shared in one of the threads. If i remember correctly, the draft proposes to bring all air rifles other than .177 cal under the arms act. If that happens, people who have anything other than .177 air rifles will need to either get an arms license or surrender their air guns. So you dont need rush and buy an air rifle immediately as the implications will remain same if the proposed amendment is made.
If you are really comcerned about the amendment and its implications, any Indian made .177 is your safest bet as of now.

I agree with Kshitij... Advices must be followed at one's own risk!kshitij wrote: Hi,

If you are really comcerned about the amendment and its implications, any Indian made .177 is your safest bet as of now.
The current proposed amendment seeks to restrict everything over .177 cal OR 20J(12fpe) energy as requiring a license. They also want to bring blank firing weapons & lookalikes under the ambit of the law. As of now, it has been stayed by the Supreme Court for good reasons. (Pls correct me if I'm wrong!)
The frustrated brains behind this proposed amendment is that of a female mantri elected from a western UP Loksabha seat & known well for her animal-loving habits... If it were upto her she would arm the Indian Army with hockey sticks, so that they may not hurt any animal-rights in the jungles. The fact that the Jihadis found in the same jungles have custom SMGs & latest ARs (assault rifles) is to protect their human rights..!
Having said that, pls ask any senior bureaucrat, fouji or policewala in India & he will grumble about the practical challenges associated with such a law. These are analogous to those associated with 'liberalizing' gun laws in India.
First off, there will be a ginormous political nautanki by all the the Yadavs, Didis, Behanjis, Ammas, Mummys & Pappus of the country. They will receive their due nautanki support by the Pornubs, Downpours & Royaldeeps of PimpinTV. Suddenly some useless writers would see it as a great opportunity to grab some limelight too. Then some dharna-pradarshans & protests by the Muffler-Movie Party with its Supreme Commander asking for an Independent Ombudsman to be setup to monitor the corruption in granting gun licenses & answerable only to Him.. He will also promise one free movie download per year if he is elected as the next PM... Suddenly the Republican presidential candidate in US would also start supporting US gun laws... You might also start seeing ADs of Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Eurofighter, Dassault, BAE, Honeywell, IMI, Rosoboronexport, Mikoyan, Sukhoi, Saab.. more frequently...!
All this would attract a reverse backlash by the Indian Lotus Temple Party & the Cow Service Society of India. Mr. Kukka Ramaswamy would 'expose' how weapons have been the Indian way of life since the time when Sage Dadhichi donated his ribcage to build the Vajra & how Indians were systematically disarmed by the Mughals, British & All India Commie Clone Party... They will be joined by some saints claiming their special Yoga package neutralizes any violent & homosexual tendencies, so people can become more responsible with their guns....
Finally the PM would get some calls & representations from all sorts of places, from his Sam Patel Chachaji to his good friends Mr. Commando Ruskin & Mr. Ambesh Murgani.. following which either the Finance Ministry would retract the amendment or the Supreme Court would issue a 'stay' order...
On the practical side, India has inadequate forces to deal with even the pending cases in the country (main reason why police doesn't register FIRs). Asking them to go track, chase & arrest everyone having a .22 AR would turn law & order situation into an overnight joke! In any case, how can you be so sure that the said aunty won't start objecting to paintball guns, bows & catapults ('Gulels') tomorrow??!
In any case, the true threat to the internal security of the country emanates from the widespread proliferation of firearms amongst criminals, naxals & insurgents. I have yet to come across an incident in which an airgun was used for a crime in the country. Until the existing gun laws are enforced stringently & the criminals disarmed, nothing will be achieved by passing such laws, no matter how much a frustrated aunty howls about it.
