Hi GNV,
A thorough & excellent report taking into consideration every possible aspect relating to an Air Rifle!
Two main issues that comes to mind are:
1. The 'assault rifle' shape of stock could be to keep in line with the trend with some of the foreign ARs available in the market.
2. The uneven weight distribution in the AR (being heavy in the front) could perhaps be compensated by mounting a scope.
3. A bit of tuning to provide smoothness at the time of cocking & trigger release would help.

I own 90 acres of land of which in 50 acres are used for Paddy and pulses cultivation and 40 acres of coconut plantation with Cocoa as inter plantation.I also own 5 acres of fish ponds but I lease them out.aadhaulya wrote:What farming do you do?? Yes I have places for shooting guns safely. For you city dwellers finding places to shoot is a big problem. For me finding shooting buddies is the big problem. I am a lone wolf when it comes to shooting.
Alcohol do strange things to me.When I want to have a drink I usually take one peg 1 hour before going to bed and read a books go to sleep. When I am pretty tired I take to pegs. first peg refreshes me. Then I take a second peg while reading a book or doing some chore and when I feel sleepy I go to bed.But if continue to drink, the alcohol stimulates me and could not sleep at all. So I only go beyond two drinks in family parties and friends get together parties to have a good time and after the party is over I spend the rest of the night reading a book. One missed night's sleep doesn't bother me at all.

Yes Jai. I have a small digital spring type weighing scale and I think I can use it to measure the trigger pull. After tuning the rifle I'll post it.Big Daddy wrote:GNV,

Please do keep it coming. Accuracy and fpe aside, could you also measure the trigger pull at it's best adjustment?

I hope to do accuracy tests as soon as I get scope mounts for this gun. But right now I can not compare it with ORION because I don't have a barrel droop compensating mount for my ORION. I'll be getting one in the last week of NOV. Then I'll do it.main13 wrote:GNV garu could you pls do a Power & Accuracy Review of the Hurricane vis a vis Orion? I got an e-mail from AARMR claiming the following:It would be great if you could kindly verify these claims...1. It is spring break barrel.
2. Muzzle energy of this is 20 joules.
3. Accuracy: 35mm group in 35 mtrs.
4. Dovetail is available in current model and it coming soon.
5. 3 years free parts supply warranty. You need to get then replaced yourself. Main spring's cost Rs. 100/-
6. Stock design available only in fiber.
7. It is already rust free Ceramic Coating.
8. Picatinny Rail can be fitted over the dovetail. But, there is no need as the height of dovetail is 2mm and telescope will not fall.
I know nothing about the parts supply warranty. This is good news. Replacing parts would not be a problem. In a few days I'll post the procedure of stripping and reassembling complete with photos.
The dovetail is good. A good one piece mount would do well.

1. If they want an Assault Rifle stock, they should design it properly I think. Looking attractive is necessary, but at the same time it should also be functionally good. It seems they spent all their time while designing in dandifying the stock without taking functional aspects into consideration. Particularly the pistol grip and trigger reach. I am an average sized male and when I grip it the third joint of my trigger finger ( where it joins the palm) is alongside the trigger blade. For people with bigger palms it would be much worse I think.
2. Never thought about it. Yes scope's weight might improve the balance.
3. I intend to do that.
Also this gun could be decocked by holding the barrel fully down and pulling the trigger like in a direct engaging sear trigger AR.
Regards,
GNV.

Thank You Utkarsh,
The best thing to do would be to go to a dealer and try both guns, checking how it fits you and then decide which one to buy. If the price is right buy from the dealer, otherwise tell the dealer that you would come again after deciding and purchase from an online shop. But the dealer would not be so courteous when you visit him to purchase pellets . Usually most dealers quote insane prices depending on the demand and supply and the gullibility of the customer. The advantage of buying from a dealer is that you can select one from a lot but prices would be high. From online shops prices would be low but you have to keep up with whatever you receive. First try both guns then decide yourself which one fits you best.

@GNV Garu : First off, thanks for the amount of effort done by you notwithstanding your age & health! Hats off!
I would like to add here that apart from being a weapons freak, I'm also a trained Yoga & Meditation Instructor... So if you or anyone else here would like to use my expertise with natural remedies for weight-loss, stress, tension, basic health issues, meditation etc, I would be only too glad to help!
Next, based on your review & the shortcomings in the gun pointed by you, I had a long discussion with the guy who has designed the gun. From the way he spoke, he sounded a genuinely helpful fellow who knew his guns.. The conclusion is as follows:
#1) 'Balance' problem - He said he had designed it to be used with pistol grip.. He however added that the base plate of the butt can be unscrewed &lead weights can be inserted into the hollow buttto adjust the balance according to one's preference.. I added that doing so would make an already heavy weapon even heavier - no response!
He also said the balance was forwards due to the muzzle weight & longer barrel length & he had deliberately made the stock shorter..
#2) Gap b/w stock & receiver - He said he had done so deliberately in order to allow for 'expansion & contraction' of metal & polymer.. I mentioned my doubts regarding problems cropping up later on - to which he said that he has been designing guns for a long time and has not encountered any problems thus far.. I don't know if that was a fact or imagination.
#3) Scope not fitting on dovetail - I had some difficulty explaining it to him as to what exactly went wrong (I don't know still..). He wanted a picture of it so he could see it himself.. GNV sir if you could kindly upload a pic of that mis-fitting scope, it would be great!
#4)The SHOCKER!!!! - As I grilled him a bit about 'claimed' energy of 20fps while actual observed energy was closer to 11 with avg speed around 650fps, he gave me this 'hint' to increase the speed upto 850fps - he told me to add a little hydraulic or silicone-based oil into the piston which is actually designed to deliver much greater power...
GNV Garu could you pleeeezzzz check this claim of the fellow... If it works out to be true, we've hit jackpot as far as power is concerned!
Pls do add any other of your doubts, so I may grill him some more again if needed!
Best Regards

Dear Wise IFG Gents,
A humble request for help!
Could somebody kindly tell me what is a State Entry Form and how much would be the State Entry Tax in UP? I've never bought a gun online before so I have zero idea about it. Yet the Hurricane guys want me to compulsorily send it to them along with the money...!
Additionally, for those who have already bought this gun - what do I need to do exactly? Pls pardon me if I'm a bit dumb!

Hello Main13. How to? and how does adding silicon oil into the piston increase fps? does he mean to introduce dieseling? please can you ask and let me know when you next speak to him.
thanks
thanks

@AnandNair - IMHO 'Dieseling' involves detonating FUEL in the compression chamber each time before the shot is fired. He was actually talking of 'lubricating' the piston with hydraulic or silicone based oil, one time only. Of course that would imply regular lubrication of parts but that would be another story I suppose.

GNV,
The best thing you have is the space available for shooting, besides the wonderful life that you are leading. That kind of space is good enough for shooting firearms as well.

GNV Garu that guy had suggested me to use hydraulic oil or silicone-based lubricant in the piston, not some low flashpoint fuel like ether which is used in dieseling.. In fact silicone lubes are used to prevent dieseling if I'm not wrong... What he seemed to imply was that he had designed a more powerful piston & then underlubricated it to keep it within limits (sounds weird to me though!)
Pls do post abt that problem besides the quality of spring, washers, break in period etc when possible.. Lets see what he has to say about that...
BTW did they ask you for the State Entry Form too??! What is it btw.. Guide cheyyandi sir?!
About your health, I think you could benefit from routine Yoga - works very well for joint pains etc if u see a good yoga teacher IMHO. & Yes, REST is very effective with spondilitis.. Mustn't take too much strain... Perhaps you should try shooting the gun with those lead weights and/or bench rest and bipod??!

except for the scuff shoulders and spondylitis which gives mild trouble ocassionally I am healthy and in perfectly fit conditions. Lifting weights continuously for extended periods only troubles me. Carrying a bag weighing 30 kgs up two stories doesn't bother me. Shooting my ORION continuously for extended periods doesn't bother me. But shooting 25 pellets with the Hurricane offhanded is giving me pain in shoulders and neck. I don't know why. I just don't want to strain those nerves unnecessarily. Thats all.
Let me tell you one thing. In my life I found that generally manufacturers don't like to admit the shortcomings of their product. Only very very few admit them and try to correct them if it is not economically taxing or too much extra effort is not required. I asked PH whether their barrels are choked or not before buying my first ORION. They answered me that their barrels are not choked and told me that it does not affect the accuracy much. My experience is that unchoked barrels give good accuracy with good quality pellets only and choked barrels give good accuracy with not so good pellets also. May be manufacturing choked barrels is more difficult. I don't think Dianawerk, Anschutz, Weihrauch etc put chokes on their barrels just for fun.
1. Balance of Hurricane is a problem for me. A bigger person with longer arms or a person with stronger arms may not find any problem with this gun.Weight of the gun is not important. The felt weight by the leading arm is important. In a well balanced gun this weight is much less. As Brihaji mentioned mounting a scope might solve this balance problem for me.
2.I think what he said about the gap is plain crap. It is due to the poor manufacturing of the mould of the stock. And moulds are very expensive. While manufacturing cost of injection molded synthetic stocks is cheaper than Wooden stocks the initial investment in moulds is very high. We can't expect them to replace their current mould. He is simply trying to cover up. He is a small scale manufacturer. He should have been more careful when the stock was being designed and the mould was being made.
3. Scope not fitting on the dovetail is not really the manufacturer's fault. The Picatinny/Weaver to Dovetail adapters I have were designed for dovetail rails with flat upper surface like the scope rails made by TTI. They don't fit the rails with curved upper surfaces of raised rails or grooves cut into the receiver tube properly. I'll post a photo showing the problem tomorrow.
4. Their claimed ME is 20 Joules which is 14.75 ft-lbs and not 20 ft-lbs. No doubt they achieved this figure using light weight alloy pellets. But out of box it is capable of 12 ft-lbs with light weight lead pellets with a cheap stock spring and piston washer without tuning. But with proper tuning and a good piston washer and high quality spring the 20 Joules mark could easily be achieved with good quality pellets like JSBs with good accuracy, I think without any induced dieseling.
And if the guy suggested to induce dieseling to increase the M.E then he understands nothing about Air Guns.
And still pretty poor is the design of the stock, I think. Trying to talk like YODA, I am.

In some states they have such taxes and to get the details you'll have to visit your local state Commercial Tax Office and get the details. We don't have any such taxes in my state of Andhra Pradesh. So the company was able to ship the gun to me without any problem. Anyway since you'll have to pay the extra tax why don't you purchase it from kovibazaar.com since they are now selling it for some 8,700/- rupees only. They would be able ship it to you without any problem using courier services.main13 wrote:Dear Wise IFG Gents,
