Wow, I just went through this thread and realized how horrible the situation is for obtaining an airsoft gun. We have to do something about this.

Sobo, tip of the iceberg. There's an awful lot of it not discussed here. But these issues are only for those who won't pay a penny more than reasonable. No clue what can be done anymore, but i'm always game.

While trying to get airsoft recognized we would inadvertently force the govt to ban the items altogether.

I believe that when Indians think of guns, the 1911 or the M9 comes to mind. When an average airsofter here in US talks about airsoft guns, the M4 or the AK would be the prominent choice of primary. Maybe I'm wrong but if there were more "toy" M4's floating around, airsoft would have less stigma attached to it and viewed more like tools for a sport.
I might be rambling here, but most people buy the airsoft handguns to be "cool" and have no regards for the sport or general safety whatsoever. This sport can only start in India if basic safety training is provided with the gun itself. I mean, they can atleast do that if they are marking up a $120 gun to Rs. 50,000 !!

Oh Jackie, Jackie....
That is a very defeatist mantra.

True that. There's no concept of primary or secondary. Airsoft war is unheard of for most. If you check those online shops here, 95% of the guns are some kind of pistol or revolver, hardly any AEG, shotgun or sniper. Infact telling them it works on batteries bring all kinds of frown. If it's gas, it's hip even though it's just for show.

But must say, some clients asked for assault rifle replicas, let down only by the exorbitant cost. How can one go about it if a CYMA AK goes for 60k?!

Jackie is not totally wrong there, it's a risk. Same reason why i'm yet to file an RTI. But nothing will happen here anymore without risking it. That's why i mentioned about Headrush. If it's organised as an event, it'll go more public. That's how paintball grew here. Waiting for people to get well informed about it by other means is a long shot.

A CYMA AK for 60K!!! Yikes! Thats 10x its original price. Absolutely ridiculous. Like I said, just handing over a "gun toy" will do nothing for this sport. I would love to talk more about this but estousandy I believe we are hogging a thread, do you think we should move this conversation to private chat?

I think it's better to keep general talks here. Infact this thread has majority posts on legality than actual ownership, main reason mods moved it to legal eagle from Airguns section. Think about it, before this thread happened, there was barely any talk on airsoft here. Sure, certain kind of things can be kept to PM.

Sorry if I sounded like the one who gives up easily. I didn't mean to demoralize people getting into airsoft. I will try to get a person onboard. He is the one from whom I have purchased airsoft guns. There was a time when he sold Glock replicas and M9s for 9k or 10k. Nowadays he is struggling to import extra magazines for those.
