Rodda double rifle with Indian writing? on the lid

Post by drcollector » Thu May 07, 2015 8:12 am

I purchased an R. B. Rodda .577 Snider double rifle at auction last week. It has ( K over 50) stamped on the bottom of the stock. The original
case has writing in a foreign language that I cannot understand. I am hoping that someone in this group to translate it for me. I have
attempted to attach a picture of the writing, but have not had much luck trying it. If this image does not work would one of the group
please explain to me the proper way to attach an image.

Thanks for your kind help,

Larry Davidson

The easiest way is to go to the bottom of the page, the left side says 'Options' and right next to it is 'Upload attachment'. You click open the 'Upload attachment' and just follow the simple procedure. Also, this option will not be available on the 'Quick Reply', you will have to use the 'Full editor' option.

Problem loading a Photo

Post by drcollector » Sun May 10, 2015 7:23 am

Sirs,

I have been trying for a couple of days to upload a photo to a post. Every time that I try the following message appears:

Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached.

Please advise me how to attach a photo. I have a cased double rifle that has (I think) Indian writing on the lid. I would like to know
who the gun was built for if that can be determined from the writing.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Best Regards,

Larry Davidson

Hi Vikram,

I have been getting the exact same message for the past few days. Was too lazy to start a new thread just to point this out.
What is the solution to uploading images to the forum?
Lock, Stock and Barrel.

Friends, if you can read the script in the photos, could you please translate it for our overseas member? Thank you.

The second pic say - Bandook Snider Dunali no- 577 which means Gun Snider Double Barrel No-577. Cannot make out the third line though. Same is written as the first line on the first picture.
Thanks

This seems to me as a licence of old times as it states name, a word kartoos (cartidge) etc. Will try to gather more details soon.

There is one writing that seems to be in Urdu or Persian. I have forwarded the images to my Mother in Law who can read both the languages. Hope to get some additional information from there.

The writing in the last pic is based on the Arabic alphabet with additional letters. It is not Persian that I can recognize. Probably Urdu, as aadhaulya suggests.

I have an apology to make. I did not know that the bottom picture was not from the R.B Rodda.577, but was on a case of a rifle that belonged to
the Nizam of Hyderabad. The top two pictures are the ones that I am concerned with. Sorry for the mix up.The rifle is a .577 Snider double
rifle with damascus barrels and Stanton locks. The inletting on the engraved locks is so precise that it is virtually a press fit. I will send pictures of it when
the barrels come back from a gunsmith. Thanks again for your help.

Larry,
Looking forward to the photos of the rifle when you get it back.
