Lee Speed

Post by Grumpy » Sat Jul 07, 2007 5:46 am

For those of you who have noted the comments on Lee Speed Rifles but didn`t know what one looked like here`s a particularly fine example in .303 which has a full-length rib, 4xExpress sights, good wood and ebony fore-end cap.
This rifle has is sold subject to the client being able to get the appropriate variation......which is a shame because I would have bought it like a shot otherwise !

That`s a good question penpusher.........and the answer is `I don`t know`. All the early Lee rifles - the Lee Metfords, Long Lees, Number Ones - took that form.....and some of them had a weird semi-circular arrangement over the bolt as well. They were all horribly expensive to build which is why they were progressively simplified and then redesigned.
Glad you like the pictures - the Lee Speeds were amongst the finest sporting rifles ever built and had superb handling......as long as you didn`t put a scope on them.
Sanjay, in the UK, once you have a Firearms Certificate you have to apply for a separate variation for each calibre rifle you wish to purchase......and have to show `need` for each - although target shooting, deer stalking, pest control, etc are all legitimate grounds, depending on each calibre/rifle required. Unless you have an unused variation on your certificate you have to make an offer on whatever you wish to purchase and then apply for a variation. Once the variation is granted the particular rifle concerned is entered on the Firearms Certificate. You cannot then purchase another in the same calibre unless the first is disposed of or another variation obtained. Dealers will hold a rifle until the variation is obtained because that`s the normal way of doing business here.

Some more pictures especially for you penpusher !
The first is a Long Lee, the second a No 1* and the third a Number 1 MK 3.
Hopefully they`ll come up in the date order as listed above:

I`ll have to look around for pictures of the other two because the resolution on my stock photographs is high creating files that are too large to load.

Thanks John !

The rifle is very nice and the 'variation' bit was well explained.
