MY ORDER FROM AIRGUNDEPOT GOT STUCK AT BANGALORE CUSTOMS

Post by safmi » Sun Mar 22, 2015 11:22 am

Dear Friends,

My package from airgundepot.com got stuck at Bangalore customs asking "Import license or permit is required for clearance".

I shipped it using FedEx.

The items in the package are below,

Bulldog 48" Scoped Rifle Case
Air Venturi G6 Hand Pump
30mm High Profile Rings for 11m (3/8") Dovetail Two Piece Mounts by Accushot
UTG 50 ml Airsoft Silicone Spray

Is there any of the items in the package a restricted item or require a permit to import.

I already have a rifle club membership.

can anybody tell me why it got stuck at customs, as far of my knowledge there is no item in my package that would be restricted item.

thanks & regards

if you don't have IEC "Import Export Code" then tell FedEx to clear your package for you but they will charge you for there clearing service ask before how much it will cost so there wont be any surprise element when you receive your package at your doorstep.

Use this IEC code : 0100000053 - Persons / Institutions / Hospitals importing or exporting goods for personnel use, not connected with trade or manufacture or agriculture.

Any way it is hardly a day. Fedex should be able to clear it.

you have to write a letter to custom stating that personal import doesn't need any import license and the imported goods are for personal use and doesn't fall under restricted category .

Hi Safmi,

As per my experience with customs in Bangalore, they ask this import code for almost all the items and especially coming from airgundepot through fedex.

I hope you have sent the KYC form to fedex with which the fedex can clear your item in customs. But still the customs ask you provide the import code.

What you can do now.

1) If you have a rifle club membership, get a letter from KSRA stating that the following items are imported by you as member which will be used for shooting sport.

If you dont have a rifle club member ship,

Just make the following points in a letter to commissioner of customs

1) You are importing the following items for personal use and not for commercial purpose and so you dont have the import code.

2) As per DGFT notification no 12/2005, I am importing the following items only for personal use and not for any resale or commercial purpose.

3) Produce the specifications and invoice of the items your have purchased ( a simple print out of the soft copy)

Try to give the letter, invoice and specifications to the fedex guys, and they should be able to clear the items on behalf of you.

If you have a membership, that would be more helpful.

Try calling the below numeber of Fedex. This is the customs clearance department of fedex. These fedex guys will handle the customs on behalf of you.

080 66783533

Jijo or Venkatesh C are the guys who speak little unfriendly initially, but they are very helpful.

Just give a try:-)

And all the best.

Regards,
KD

My stuff was stuck at delhi, since it was a test batch, just a few tins of pellets, I decided to let them go and take the loss.
The problem was that fedex imported it in as cargo and not courier as they should have. From my limited understanding of what transpired, Cargo is treated as commercial merchandise, hence all the paperwork nedded to deny it's commercial status. And I have a sneaking feeling that fedex might be doing it on purpose because they might be making more on clearing cargo. Otherwise why were 4 tins of pellets addressed to a residence brought in as cargo and not courier? Then they needed so many papers from me that I decided to let it be. Plus their fee to clear it was more that what the merchandise cost.

I already submitted necessary documents to FedEx, and they have put up the documents for Customs Examination.

But now the problem is, customs officials are not willing to do the examination.

Friends,.. can anybody help me ?

Hello Safmi,
The Customs officials in Bangalore are a little laid back and unfriendly. Do seek an appointment with the concerned official at Menzes Cargo terminal, where the customs have their office and tell them that your consignment is for personal use and does not require an import licence. The same has been published by DGFT in their notification, a copy of which can be found in earlier threads in this section.

Suggest you print these notifications and read through the CBEC manual before you meet the Customs officials.

FedEx representative advised to give a call to assistant commissioner Mr.RAVINDRA Joshi, and tell him that customs official are not willing to do the examination.

My package arrived wrongly marked it contain a pellet rifle, after a tiresome correspondence with AIRDEPOT guys i managed to get the correct invoice.

Then the customs officials asked for the rifle club membership details, even that won't be required for such a package, i managed to submit all the documents.

Now the officials are not willing to do the examination.

seriously man, am so tired of this..it been more than a month am behind this...
