Entry Into Shooting With The Precihole NX100 Club Elite

Post by sohampaul11 » Sat Apr 18, 2015 2:26 am

Hello Fellow IFGians. This is my first proper post as well as intro into this forum. First off,let me start by thanking this forum for helping me in choosing the Precihole NX100. I also thank all the eminent members whose posts as well as guidance to many people have encouraged me to take up shooting as a sport as well. That and the encouragement from my mother as well as support from my better half-cum-best friend has led me to believe that I can pursue shooting despite all the bottlenecks for continuing this sport (which I plan to take up as a full-time career).
Myself Soham Paul. I belong to a very mediocre bengali family. Finance is almost always a problem for us. My mom as well as dad keeps on saying 'this type of sport does not suit us;it's not for us'. I naturally was always discouraged to take up this sport. As a result of which I didnt dare to join shooting at an early age. On the other hand, I was always intersted in guns and shooting things up. In melas and carnivals I was always encouraged and drawn to those balloon popping sessions. Those were my first taste in guns. This interest grew. Since I could not take up shooting,so,I was drawn to join the Armed Forces. As a result, I appeared for the NDA exam. Qualified the writtens and got called up for the interviews(SSB Batch DNDA 39150 130th Course NDA). But got conferenced out. My dreams of joining the Air Force was shattered. This was 2 years ago. I forgot what shooting was, literally in these 2 years. Recently in January 2015 my better half evoked my interest back in taking up shooting seriously. I said,ok,why not? Provided I'm able to convince my parents about this. I was quite apprehensive of the idea because the last attempt failed miserably! I gave this one a try. And fortunately,I dont know how(or why) my mom agreed. So in March, I took admission the North Calcutta Rifle Club to take up shooting as a sport(For those curious souls out there I had to pay 4200/- as membership fees because I'm a student, and 1200/- yearly. As of now,I'm still waiting to receive my Shooter's ID card.). Training continued. My club trainer was asking me to get a rifle from the 3rd day onwards since he saw I was improving gradually. He suggested me to take up 10m Pistol Shooting as there is less hassle of Equipment and less cost incursions. But he suggested to take up rifle shooting first. I asked him about the entry level ones locally available at low cost. He told me to get the Precihole NX100 instead of the IHP. I was a member of this forum for a long time. I researched for info about shooting here. So, after 1 month(read 4 days, since the NCRC is only open on Sunday from 10am to 2pm),I got the courage to speak this up to my family. They agreed, but, they would've bought me this rifle after 6 months. But I was growing restless. So my mom gifted me a Precihole Club Elite which I bought from J.Biswas & Co. for 11,705/-(came free with 500 Aimco Flathead pellets).

Now skipping to the main part. I've had this rifle for 2 days. And I could say that this is a very well made and put together rifle. The sights stay true. I've fired aroud 500 shots(both Mastershot Flathead And Aimco Flathead) and still the sights stays true. No loosening up. This being a Nitro Piston is very smooth to operate and cock. Recoil is very low. Much lower than the Pegasus which I get to use at the club. The brown coloured stock is synthetic and has a rubbery finish to it. Much better IMO than the fibre stock on the National 35 which I was offered at the store.
Let's see some images first.

This is the type of grouping I'm getting initially.

Range-10m
Stance-Standing Offhand
Target-Standard ISSF 10m Air Rifle
Pellets-MasterShot Flathead(Yellow Box)

P.S-Pardon my inexperience in shooting. In all this was my 7th day in handling an air rifle and shooting. As also this was my personal 450th-510th shot. The rifle is still settling,so my groups may be erratic. By the time this was shot,my rifle had around 200 shots through it. I'm yet to find the best pellet configuration for this rifle, but hey I'm in no hurry. All I'm concentrating on is how I can achieve a solid repeatable stance and breathing. I would like the experienced memebers to give me some tips on how can I improve my shooting and also to analyse my shot groups and evaluate me. Any other pointers will surely help.

Thank you sir! Can you tell me which pellet brands tend to go well with Precihole ARs. The current Aimco Flatheads seems to shoot 1 feet above, below, across the target! Adjusting the sights doesnt help. mastershots gave me good grouping. But they are currently out of stock in J Biswas. On enquiring about that, they said that due to defective pieces, they have stopped stacking them. The ones they have are Precipell Match 0.177cal. But after going through a post by UltimateSniper on the quality of recent batches of Precipells,I am not getting the confidence to buy them. Right now,I dont think I have the moolah as well as the experience to go for pellet testing by brands(both national and international). But what I want is a readily available pellet brand which is relatively cheap to procure and gives consistent groups.

Soham, you can try RWS Geco flat heads, they are uniform in shape/weight and give good groupings. More importantly, they are not too expensive.

Good to see that you have chosen the best model out of Precihole stable.
This is most accurate gun I have ever fired.
You may try Precipell only..hope that will be best .

Thanks Basu Sir! The store guys suggested me that this will be the best one for 10m target shooting. Power is the least of my concerns. I'll be getting the Precipell Match pellets on Monday and shoot them. Lets see which pellet does my rifle loves. Will post groupings!
