Re: Got my Chrony
Dear benne,
You are doing everything for those who have no access to authentic chrony.
There is some thing called "Spatology", that is only left for experiment vis-a-vis chrony.
Thanks indeed.

Re: Got my Chrony
Just a note of caution, I see queries w.r.t "the performance when dieseling"! All springers have an element of dieseling during normal operation, trying to induce additional "dieseling" will inevitably lead to "detonation" which at the very least will give you inconsistent velocities/ results/ terrible accuracy/ etc. and at worst may lead to permanent damage and expensive repairs.
As the wise would say - better to hit it at 500 fps (or what have you) consistently than to miss it at 1,000 fps (or whatever else magical figure the fps hungry are going for these days).
Cheers!

Re: Got my Chrony
What are the values of A, B and C, at least ballpark.bennedose wrote:Maybe I have some good news for people who cannot get access to a Chrony, but are using Chrono connect on their smart phones.
Today I did a brief simultaneous comparison of velocity calculated by the Chrony, Chrono connect on the mobile and sound recording via Audacity
Just 3 shots(IHP 35, 0.22/5.5mm)
Shot 1:
Chrony: 148 m/sec
Chrono connect: 130 m/sec
Audacity - will talk about this below
Shot 2:
Chrony: 152 m/sec
Chrono connect: 134 m/sec
Audacity -
Shot 3
Chrony: 154 m/sec
Chrono connect: 134 m/sec
Audacity -
Note that all Chrono Connect values are consistent. They are also consistently lower than Chrony values and tend to show values 15-20 m/sec slower. However Chrono connect requires very precise measurements that I am unable to do. It asks for distance of device (phone) fom muzzle relatively easy) and distance of device from pellet path. This is not easy. At best it is a guesstimate. So I cannot tell whether Chrono Connect values will be higher or lower or accurate for other people. But on average I would guess that Chrono Connect will give values that are approximately +/1 10% of the real values. So they are not was waaaay out.
What is way waaay out is Audacity and here is a special interest area for Basu and me. Basu I will start a separate thread with the Audacity wavefoms and some estimates which I hope will answer the question that we have discussed from time to time - that is - exactly where to take the measurements from. I think this might interest you.

Ah!!!bennedose wrote:Some preliminary rough figures - using my lightest pellets to generate highest velocities. Those are 760 mg (11.7 of Her Royal Majesty's grains) Marshal shot flat head in 5.5 mm (0.22)
SDB 65 - Average 180 meters per sec with Chrony
Precihole Orion: Average 175 meters per sec with Chrony
IHP 35: Average 150 meters per sec with Chrony
In general Chrono connect readings taken simultaneously were about 10-15 meters per second lower.
My Orion and SDB are giving me about 11.5 to 12 Joules that is about 8.5 to 9 of her Majesty's choice fpe
Need to check in different lighting, different conditions and heavier pellets. But I will not cross compare with Chronoconnect because in my shooting area I can eithet get light+echoes or trees above + no echoes. Chrony does not like trees. Chrono connect does not like echoes.
Oh by the way - I successfully shot my Chrony and dented a bit of metal - but it's still working.
The 'prophecy' by xl_target re-affirms the triumph & tribulations of a Chrony

Re: Got my Chrony
I have no doubts about the correctness of Chrono connect. I've tested the app in three devices at a time. Two were same(Android one) and other was tab 3. The android ones gave nearly exact readings and the tab showed literally no difference (just ± 5 fps)
So it is proved that chrono connect is not ‘ bluffing ’.
The reading are consistent. I've checked a reading of CC with audacity (Thanks to Benne) which are very close.
So I think that if one can't arrange a chrony CC app is a good option .

Dear Benne
I think that a bit lower velocity of chrono connect again prooves it's correctness. I read somewhere in this forum that chrono connect gives average velocity. And if my assumption is right chrony gives the velocity at a particular point. And one will usually place a chrony near than the target used for CC. So average velocity WILL be slower than the velocity of chrony which is usually near to the gun.
I can't say exactly how much decrease in velocity will occur... But it would be around-10~ MPs ( I'm not sure).
Conclusion 3 cheers for the guy who developed chrono connect

Re: Got my Chrony
CC gives correct data if actual BC of pellet is put.
In a reply to my question , CC had replied that the best result is found at a distance of 10 mts.
CC is expected to give Fps at muzzle not the average velocity.

Well basu
I've read a number of times that CC gives average velocity. I expect that audacity also gives average velocity.

Congrats Bennedose!!
Do test the velocity with Mastershot, GSmith and Precipel pellets.
It would be interesting to note the results.

SS
