Scottish Dirk/Boot Dagger DIY

Post by astronomy.domaine » Sun Feb 22, 2015 5:46 pm

Hi All,
wanted to share some pics of a compact double edge boot dagger shaped like a traditional Scottish Dirk (16th-18th century, Britain), that I completed today. Have kept the blade surface pretty basic with only hand rubbing to replicate a rough/weathered medieval look. Though, with fairly sharp edges and compact size, I am inclined to try it out as an EDC.
Have used the usual Tool Steel, with epoxy handle covered with thin parachord. the sheath is wood splines covered with latex.
Please have a look; comments and suggestions are most welcome.!

Sweet lookin knife you got there! Did you make the sheath too? If yes, please detail how you went about it. Also the notches near the handle, are they for locking the blade in place in the sheath?

Tnx Kshitij and Vikram,

@ Kshitij: Yes buddy, made the sheath too. I have used wood board splines for the inner structure and covered with latex sheath (read: cricket bat grip). The notches are purely cosmetic ; the sheath locks on to the blade with just friction.

Thanks supershaji...
The finish is just hand rubbed @600 grit. No buffing with the green/white polish generally used for a mirror finish...
