The ashani is a double action only Concealed Hammer fired pistol. This would be the Ultimate Modification.....

The Arms Act doesn't say anything on whether it's legal or illegal to add hammer to a pistol.

What it says is that you can not alter or play with serial no., proof marks and other factory markings.

Don't really follow the question. The Hammer and Striker fire pistols have entirely different mechanism. What would one mean by the term Adding a Hammer to a pistol. BTW the ashani is already a hammer fire pistol, only that the hammer is concealed.

Isnt the Ashani Single Action Only; and thats one of the reason it cant be carried with a round in the chamber? The only DAO pistol i was aware of in India was a CZ in .25 acp.

Or am i missing something?

Farook, could you please stop dishing out wrong information to forum members who post questions to clear some doubt ?
No, the Ashani is not "a double action only concealed hammer fired pistol"

It is a single action pistol with grip safety. That means the lever in the back-strap of the grip and the trigger have to be engaged simultaneously to drop the hammer on the firing pin.... Example of similar action is the famous Colt 1911 pistol. Going by your definition, the 1911 should be called a "double action only exposed hammer fired pistol" !!!

In a double action only pistol, which the Ashani is not, and whether or not the hammer is concealed or exposed, a squeeze on the trigger (which is normally a rather long and hard one compared to a single action) takes the hammer back through its full cycle just like a double action revolver. Example: the CZ 25 pistol which is still found in India in large numbers.

An exposed or concealed hammer does not decide how the trigger and sear are going to function in a certain type of action. Rather, its just the opposite.

Please be absolutely sure of what you are writing. Act responsibly.

TC

PS: The photo you posted does not show any apparent sign of modification. It only shows ornamentation.

Coming back to the topic. Legally and strictly speaking, IOF holds the patent of the Ashani's design, hence any modification can be construed as violation but its an open secret now and so far nobody in the government has raised any question. So I guess adding external hammer and button release for the magazine is ok.

I would like to add my two cents here...Pic posted above is not of Ashani. Its customized Browning.

My apologies TC, wrong information was given to me by my gunsmith. Perhaps I could not understand his way of explanation.

Even after owning the ashani for quite some time now fire it a couple of times I am still not clear on the internals of my pistol Dev. I had visited a gun smith sometime back for modifications. He did a bit of explaining but there was a language barrier. At the end of it decided not to modify it. Dont feel like melting the glue of the barrel bush as yet. While I do know its a simple blow back design, I would really appreciate if a member would upload the photos of the hammer lock, grip safety and trigger mechanism.

The photo is of an original Browning. Can the Ashani made to at-least look like this.

Farook,

you don't have to look at the picture of the mechanism to figure out if its SAO or DAO. there is enough information available on this very forum to read and more importantly absorb. While I'm sure your intention was right you should be careful while posting such definitive replies. Not just your credibility but the credibility of this forum will go down. And there aren't many sources of information available for the indian firearm enthusiast.

Cheers,
SS

So, Farook, the issue is, why do you hand out advice to others with the authority of knowing what you are saying, when it turns out that you don't?

Now, even more members are tired of you handing out rubbish to other members.

How about talking less and listening more? Why act like an authority on these things?

If you want to know about these things, why aren't you using google?
