Upland Gun Choice (Pics)

Upland season is fast approaching and I was looking at the options from my safe for pheasant and Chukars this year, decided on this Weatherby semi-auto (12 ga, 28" barrel) . I have found the 3rd shot very handy in the event of a multiple flush although I have never been able to score a triple. Some one I know once scored a triple with a pump, incredible. He has been shooting a pump for nearly 4 decades.







My second choice would be this Beretta O/U













Wondering if you guys would prefer the Beretta over the Weatherby?

Herb: considering that I couldn't hit a bull's butt with a bass fiddle when it comes to shotguns, your pheasant and chukkars would be safe no matter which gun I used, so I would take the Beretta. This would give me lots of points with my hunting crowd, as long as they don't see me shoot. The Beretta would have the advantage of my only wasting two shells per shot opportunity, as opposed to three for the Weatherby.

It looks like you will do the Weatherby, though, for good reasons.

Yes, it came with 2 rings one marked as light & the other heavy. I have not run into any problems so far. It is a very light gun and would make a good all-day-carry gun. I am sure the quality control must be very stringent for Weatherby to put their name & reputation behind it. My take is that it should be a good hunting gun (couple of boxes of ammo every year) but may not be a good fit for volume shooting like skeet/trap etc. Browning and Beretta may be a better choice for that.

I also have a Browning silver and think the Weatherby is a much better handling and lighter gun but then the Silver is 3.5 inch magnum ....

I like the look of both the guns,but the Beretta gets my vote,unless the weather and terrain are harsh on a particular day.

Yes, it is a male mallard, the females are plain looking compared to the males vivid coloring on the head, neck and wing tips. They are plentiful in North America, very similar to the mallards we see in India.

I remember shooting mallards in Belgaum, India as a boy in the early 80's ( when hunting was allowed) and if I remember correctly they looked more or less the same. Another picture(couple of years old) with both males & females....gun is a friends.

I believe a semi is the standard upland gun there. so go for it.

I wud choose the gun that fits me better.
I too have yet to triple anything on my semi.
