Scope which digests the heavy recoil of Diana 460 magum

Hi friends,
I have mounted a bushnell banner 3-9×40 scope on my 460 diana using a utg accushot mount. The problem I'm facing is that the scope doesn't hold zero after 15 to 20 shots and I have to zero the damn thing again and again. Is there any scope available for this rifle which would bear its heavy recoil???? If there is please suggest one. Thanks.

The Bushnell Banner is not the ideal scope for this gun, and I don't think that the Bushnell Trophy would work either.
A sure fire choice would be the Vortex Diamondback. They are very highly regarded and are recommended for the Diana 54 which is an acknowledged scope killer.
The advantage of the Vortex scopes is that they have a default no questions asked lifetime warranty.
Do lay your hands on one if you can.

On my 460 Magnum. I had a BSA 3-9x50 scope with UTG droop compensator mount which held tight to the scope rail, besides there was a scope stop pin. The scope also had a zero lock, if i remember. A combo of all these will ensure there is no scope shift. Mine was dead accurate. Sold it for the only reason it was heavy for me. The Centrepoint scopes are also good.

The scopes ebenezer and vikram have suggested are great scopes but will they also not faulter????well I think its a question of hit and trials....I would have been comfortable with open sights on this rifle but the foresight is too thick and it pretty much covers the whole target at 10 yards and beyond. Since we don't have the luxury of selecting scopes from a wide variety of manufacturers here in India, I will have to do with open sights or go scope hunting and pay exorbitant prices for cheap scopes.

Instead of paying premium prices for low end scopes, it would be ideal if you could hold on a bit and
go for the better scopes.
I have had my scopes brought over by friends coming to India. As long as you get a single scope
the custom officers do not bother you. The Diamondback is a great scope for the price and the quality
is immediately apparent.

@ Briha : It would be only fair to compare the Diamondback price to the Bushnell Elite.
I think that it is about 60% of an Elite. So all in all not overpriced I should think

Agree Lucky Luke...
For the shooter who wants quality, performance & dependability - price should not be a factor for option...
But then affordability is also a consideration - isn't it?
Come to think of it - in some cases the cost of the AR is far less than the scope

Hi folks, logging in after a really long time. Recoil on an airgun?????. You are using really cheap and throwaway stuff. I have a Swarovski 1.7-10 on my 375 H and H which has been there for more than 5 years and taken a lot of recoil and bumps including a dangerous game hunt in Africa- It is still zeroed like a dream. Get rid of that scope and go for a Nikon at the least. And do not economize on the mounts.

Good to see you posting. You are right about not using cheap scopes.

The recoil on air guns, to be precise spring guns, operates differently from the powder guns. The recoil in a firearm is rearwards whereas the recoil in a springer is forward and backward due to the movement of the mainspring. This results in the non-spring gun rated scopes getting damaged and/or losing zero frequently. It is little to do with the optics.

I'm partial to the bushnell elite series for my springers. they hold zeroes well and can withstand the harsh recoil of springers, which as Vikram pointed out, is more unforgiving than centrefire recoils

After years of experience I am telling you that there is no scope in the world that can sit on a springer. Air Rifle rated. Nikko steling Gold AO, Bushnell, whatever, triple binding point single piece mount, best original Diana Scope creep arrestors, everything.

I tried all and it will off everything in 50 to 60 shots and I am talking of a Diana 35 type power plant, or an HW 80 forget about a Super Magnum 460 power plant.

When the shooting has to be done at 20 to 30 yards which is the extreme accurate range what do you need a scope for ? That was my end conclusion so the Air Rifle rated scopes now sit on stuff like 22LR or Indian made 30-06 where they are more suited.

I'm quite curious as to what led you to these surprising conclusions.
You seem to be quite definite about your statements.

I've used my Diamondback on my FAC 97K for at least 10,000 pellets.
It has never needed any adjustment in the least. The mounts are Sportsmatch.
My shooting buddy uses a Diamonback on his 54. No problems there either since the past 3 years. The 54 is extremely hard on scopes and is an acknowledged scope killer.

# your limit of 30 yards - why this limitation ?
We normally shoot at ranges of 50 and 70 yards. And the targets are cans ( easy at 70 ) and golf balls ( a bit more challenging at 70 - given the wind conditions ). On a good day it gets boring to shoot the golfballs.

Please do tell us about the Springers, Scopes and Targets that you normally use. I would very much like to know.
