Is there any special procedure to be followed or special licenses to be procured if I want to possess sniper's rifles? I mean, they are ordinary rifles with mounts and scopes, so are there any separate set of rules? If so, what do I need to do to procure such a license?

Please read an earlier discussion on what constitutes a sniper rifle.In India rifles are classified as per their caliber and not as per the use they can be put to.Licenses are issued accordingly.

Firetrail, a bit of advice- a sniper rifle, constitutes many things which are not available/banned in India-
bull barrels, free floating, scopes, tailoring and reloading ammo,etc
Unless you are proficient in home gunsmithing, suggest you take up an alternate project, which may be viable, and one where we can help you out with...

A `bull` barrel is a heavy barrel. One that has a large external diameter. The benefits are that a heavy barrel is more rigid and both takes longer to heat up and dissipates heat more quickly because of the greater surface area.
A barrel that is free-floating does not touch the fore-end of the stock at all. The barrel channel is cut wide enough and deep enough that the barrel is untouched. The advantage is obvious - the barrel is not being distorted by being pushed out of true when the fore-end is held or rested on an external surface.

HI! folx chk out the movie "Shooter" released this year based on stephen hunters novel - superb sniping action including one scene where a barret 50 is used against a heli gunship depicted at 3 places .
