IHP 35 in wooden stock vs synthetic stock

Post by alameinite » Fri Jun 20, 2014 8:56 am

Hi fellow members,I am going to buy a national airrifle today. Kindly suggest whether to go for a classic wooden stock or the new synthetic stock with pro and cons and pl hurry as I'll be in Meerut only till afternoon.
Regards (and regrets for the hurry)

Hi al,
> Go for the Synthetic Stock....
> There's nothing 'Classic' about the IHP35's wooden stock - The wood used is cheap & prone to cracking or even breaking...
> Friends who have bought the IHP35 with synthetic stock are satisfied...
> Synthetic over Wood has it's advantages..
> Synthetic isn't affected by temperature, or moisture, takes hard use and abuse, and won't swell, warp, crack or peel.
> These factors in and of themselves make a Synthetic Stock better and more durable than Wood, in the long run.
> Especially in regards to "free floating" a Target Barrel.Synthetic Stocks have a definite advantage over Wood....
> There is no noticeable difference in recoil... There is no real difference in accuracy...
> All said & done wood stocks have a charm & appeal of their own - It depends on the quality of wood...
> But then each to his won...
> Good Luck :D

There are some woods ,synthetics have got vibration absorbing capacity but not all.
Preference should be based on that because at the end of the day accuracy and comfort matter most.

I believe wood have got its own charm of shining looks.

But Synthetic have better practicality. They are lighter and have better life.

Wood has got its own charm!!!
Yes! Nobody can deny that...
Synthetics came to be used as material for gun stocks for the following reasons:
1. Wood is getting scarcer & expensive
2. Making wood stocks takes time & is labor intensive
3. Rejected wood stocks have to be scrapped - can't be re-used
4. Wood stocks can chip, crack or break
5. Wood stock needs regular maintenance

1. Synthetic stock - raw material available 24 x 7
2. Once the mould is made - production is much faster
3. Hence very economical
4. Rejected stocks can be crushed & remolded
5. Synthetics will not chip, crack or easily break
6. Does not need maintenance (waxing, oiling, polishing etc... regularly)
7. Costs less than a wood stock
> Checkering on wood stock takes skill & time to accomplish it....each stock has to be engraved separately...
> In synthetic stock this can be etched or engraved in the mould once only -
> If you are focused on shooting & the skills good - then wood or synthetic doesn't really matter...
> But to the manufacturer who wants to give the shooter a good & value for money gun which he can afford at a reasonable price - then he has no option but to go for synthetics to make the stock.....
