New Problem For Shooters Importing Arms & Ammunition.

All Started In Mumbai Customs.

Customs not Releasing Consignment of shooters as they dont have Import Export Code (IEC). Also IEC cannot be issued on personal name as you have saving bank A/C.

They now charging panelty & Damerages, as consigments are lying since more than 30 days @ Rs 10 Per Kg, Per Day.

Now IEC cannot be issued for Jr's As they dont have PAN Numbers.

Never Ever anyone has ever issued IEC for Arms & Ammunition Import ?

This is India. What to Do ?

An IEC number is for commercial transactions only.
Import of arms and ammunition by renowned shots comes under exempted category.
Do a bit of digging about the rules and give it to them in writing.

Custom Officers are showing latest rules, under which IEC is required. my fried is charged with panelty 30,000 INR.

Before NRAI DGFT Import permit IEC for shooters is - 0100000053 ?

Persons importing or exporting goods for personal use not connected with trade or manufacture or agriculture is exempt from obtaining IEC code.

Use this permanent IEC number for exempt category -
IEC Code Number 100000053 Persons / Institutions / Hospitals importing or exporting goods for personnel use, not connected with trade or manufacture or agriculture.

1) Arms - 10,000/- INR
2) Ammunition - 10,000/- INR
3) Damrages - Rs 10/- per KG, Per Day.

Well I got caught in this whole mess a couple of weeks ago.
I bought a steyr lp10 from Europe (online) and they shipped
It to me on Turkish airlines cargo service. I was hoping that
Turkish airlines would just deliver it to me at home and charge
Me the additional sum of Octroi. But Turkish airlines informed me
That I have to clear my air pistol from customs at the cargo complex
Of mumbai airport.
Upon going there I had to make a gate pass to enter. Then I went from
One office to another but eventually I was told that IEC is now

Shooting club MRA in mumbai.
After a lot of effort convincing the asst commissioner that logically
IEC is not needed, he refused to see my point. I was advised to use the
Government IEC code and pay the fine and penalty which is usually 10000
And 10000 respectively. But they have me a half waiver and fined and penalised
Me 5000 + 5000. However before this an order was passed stating that since
I have imported this without an IEC, such and such fine and penalty will be imposed
Then I paid the 10k and the Octroi and finally got my steyr.
Very weird. Let's say someone buys a laptop or a camera on eBay, does he also have to

Hello sameer, did you use the IEC code 100000053? did u have to submit any certificate?
and if we are to import thru pyramid air, when and where do u mention the IEC code to avoid the detention and penalty. If any one can clarify please.

Does this mean that even a one-time rare traveler like a tourist would be better off applying for and having the 100000045 BEFORE (s)he leaves India simple without knowing what item abroad would catch his/ her fascination overseas ? Or now some of Netizens like us who frequently order from ebay.com would be smarter (& luckier) if they possessed one ?
