CK.........Thank you very much CK, I wish you was with me and help me to build this.

XL........
Now the wait begins!
Are you loading up a bunch of ammo?
Yes indeed now the wait begins.I do have a 1000 rounds, which I reload for my bolt actions toy and I like to keep it for my bolt actions.Once my AR ready for sure I am going to reload for this as well with different load.

TC.......
Baljit, a big thanks for posting pics of every step in the assembling process. Even I could give it a try now.... only if I had an AR :(
Yes you can but the problem is you are in India, where you can only dream about this.
But on a serious note ... you got a lovely work bench buddy.
Thank you very much again, this is the only way I like to work on my toys.
Waiting for the next post
Please stick around for more interesting things.

Haji.......
That's heck of a job Baljit . Buying a plane ticket in four weeks
.

Thank you very much Haji. When are you coming?
Waiting for Baljit to run out of money , shooting his and then I would buy it half the price .
In your dreams. ROTFL
Well, post a pic later, there's one broken sitting in basement,
I'll pay you $ .99 for this broken once.

Baljit is going about this the correct way.
He's going to wait till the rifle is built and is then going to work up a load for it.
He has enough experience to know that is what will work.

You cannot shoot surplus military ammo or even ammo loaded commercially to military specs and expect to shoot tiny groups. Granted, some surplus ammo will shoot better than others but you just cannot get handload accuracy with surplus mil. ammo. While some commercially loaded hunting ammo might give you decent groups, they still won't be in the same category as properly tailored handloads. You might also have to tailor your loads to the specific rifle.

Read this interesting article below.
http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/edu8.htm

As he says:
Conclusions:
1. Military ammo isn't as accurate as many believe.

2. Anyone that says they routinely shoot sub-MOA groups with iron sights and military ammo has a problem with truthfulness.

3. Some military ammo shoots better than others.

4. Military ammo is not "more accurate" when shot from a bench-rest quality rifle.

5. Nothing will match well-developed handloads.

And take one more look at group #8. That's what a fine target AR will do :)

Baljit.
I don't understand a thing of what you are doing.
But it looks like you are putting in quite an effort in making of this "toy".
All the best.

Prashant , thank you very much for your feedback.
You have to spend some time with me to understand this my AR project, so I can teach you ABC about AR rifles.
Stick around for more.

Thanks Inder.
Just another reason why I continue to live here.

I went to the range this afternoon. Winter is trying to hang on as long as it can.
It was 39 deg F (4 deg C). Luckily I had a warm coat and a hat in the car. I toughed it out for four hours and then gave up.

I was able to check out some different types of ammo in the gun. It fed, fired and ejected everything flawlessly.

This was Hornady 55 gr. FMJ (five shot group)

This was PMC X-Tac 55 gr FMJ (three shot group)

This was some commercially loaded 55 gr FMJ (three shot group)

I was pleasantly surprised as using the 3X scope, the crosshairs completely cover the orange dot. Placement of the crosshairs is somewhat of a guess. With more magnification, one could probably be more precise.

This is a rack grade rifle with a rack grade trigger. The barrel is chrome plated which, while increasing longevity, can possibly be detrimental to accuracy when compared to a similar barrel that is not chrome plated. Maybe this says something about the inherent accuracy of the cartridge.

Hmmmm, interesting report there xl_target! Looks like the the standard AR is very forgiving with a range of ammo. Lots of variables to ponder upon...I wonder what effect the ambient temperature had / would have under more severe conditions?

I must say, excellent effort, great grouping, in spite of the persistent (refuses to go away) weather!? :D
