ISSF 300m Rife Matches for the civilian version with single shot rifles. We have the NRA High Power rifle matches at 300m in the USA which are very similar.

The guns are expensive, ammunition even more so and these days a lot of developments from benchrest are entering the sport making it much more high tech than the hammer and chisel stuff that ISSF shooters are usually accustomed to.

Nana PAtekar may be a good shot but his boasts about beating the rest of the world if he gets a 300 m rifle (which one?) are silly. Methinks he should learn to keep his mouth shut and not brag too much in public. This is not a film audience after all...
HI! ISSF does note denote civilian version. Nearly all the services around the world who follow competitive shooting eg. olympics or world cups commonwealth games etc. all shoot as per ISSF rules and compete in ISSF matches. ISSF is a mix of civil and services .

Well benchresters have certainly introduced some new loads and calibers in the game. 6mm BR is their greatest contribution to 300 M shooting. Except India Issf shooters everywhere use handloads for customisation and cost savings and the hammer and chisel stuff well is above me ;)

Nana Patekar lands up 2 days bfore the comp and the army guyz lend him a swiss tanner rifle and ammo to practice in return for some pro-ship with their families. This leads to him getting more practice and I think firing off more ammo that 80% of the other competitors put together have fired in the entire year !The real interesting part is that Nana patekar lost his qualification in his very first .22 match in the nationals and have since never ever seen the Gentleman on the .22 nationals again

Nobody said that ISSF matches are restricted to just civilians (MAJOR RAghvendra Singh Rathore anybody) .Just that ISSF matches are very different from the services competitions that use service issue firearms and are closer to the origins of the sport (300 mtr big bore rifle shooting) than the ISSF regulated matches.

sorry penpusher but the same rifles and sights we use in ISSF matches are used by the CISM -http://www.cism-milsport.org . Only diff is that in ISSF matches u cannot use the magazine and have to load each shot individually whereas in CISM matches u use a magazine . What u r refering to is the service matches held by the forces where they use their service weapons and sights and BTW only military /service personel compete in service matches and CISM games.

I wish to state that the regular military service rifle does not even come close to the accuracy a Match rifle can provide. Most ppl in the US who use military rifles for competition have them heavyily modified with match barrells , match triggers , stocks and accurizing the action.

The 22, 6mm and 7mm benchrest rounds were a Remington development in the late 1970s and are not basically designed in benchrest competition though they have been used there to good effect. Norma has it's own version the 6mm Norma Benchrest with a longer neck. The designed in benchrest competition rounds were the 22 and 6mm PPC designed by Palmisano and Pindell in the 70s based on the match version of the Soviet 39mm case. All of these rounds have now been superseded by new benchrest derived rounds like the 6x47, 6.5x47 and 6XC.

It is a myth that most 300m ammunition as used in ISSF competition is handloaded. Lapua, Norma, Raufoss and several others have been making match ammunition in centrefire calibres for a long time. Remington made it in the 6 and 7mm BR rounds but they only sold 22 BR cases for some reason. Sako and Lake City Arsenal loaded the PPC rounds.

Most handloaders in benchrest and 300m High Power competition handload their own ammunition not because they are short a buck or two but because theya re usually advanced shooters with an intimate knowledge of their sport and enjoy matching and experimenting with the right combination to get as tiny a group as possible. ISSF has always been a poor cousin to the more advanced matches and will remain that way as long as the godfathers of the sport persist in dumbing it down the way they have done since the organisation's beginnings.

This is bunk. You might use a 300m rifle with the magazine removed in India due to non availability of single shot 300m rifles but that does not make it the rule.

The 300m Free Rifles are always single shot ones only in ISSF competition though rifles used in Standard Rifle matches do have 10 round mags.

US High Power matches are shot with a variety of rifles and are a vastly superior sport in terms of the technology used and of the arms and ammunition employed. These matches are now shot in Switzerland, the UK, Norway, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand and several other countries though, of course, Indian laws would never allow them to take place there.

i might not be good enough to make it to the ifg team but u have my full support and will be glad to help in any way practically possible.

another suggestion- may sound far fetched. how about finding sponsorers and hosting something?small scale to begin with but as they say " a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

Well buddy "You Might" also applies to all countries where ISSF matches are held or organised. Just visit ISSF website and dl the rule book and give it a read ;)

sorry pal all the ISSF matches be it free rifle or standard rifle have to be shot w/o mags....... rtfm

well the hi power guyz shoot with scopes and ISSF guyz with peep sights to 300m slowfire but diff is that they shoot 60 record shots in abt and hr besides the sighters the HP guyz rarely shoot more than 10 /20 rounds from one position at one time . the HP guyz also shoot to longer ranges and also have timed speed firing hence the need for mags. I still tend to beleive that the guns used by the ISSF shooters r far superior than HP. In the US lot of HP is also done at reduced targets at shorter ranges with the scopes and the groups the shooters boast abt in the forums r way inferior a ISSF shooter would shoot at the same range. However all r entitled to their opinions but most groups I have seen r shot at 100yds or 200 yds.....

Just shows how boring the sport must be for spectators

Not so. http://www.nrahq.org/compete/highpower.asp They seem to be shooting to longer ranges wiht metallic sights than the ISSF guys.

Why is that? Are the rifles used for High Powered shooting clunkers?Would be strange if it were so in a place like USA where the shooters have access to equipement and expertise we Indian can only dream of. Have you handled rifles used for the High Powered shooting and thus are able to make a real comparison .Or is it a case of you competing in ISSF sports and thus anything related to it being inherently superior.
However all r entitled to their opinions but most groups I have seen r shot at 100yds or 200 yds.....
Strange that the sport calls for competitions upto 1000mtrs and all the shooting,or almost all taking place at 100-200 mtrs. Are the Americans running out of land to shoot.

In India atleast, there is only one range where 300mtrs matches can be held.Bisley is also the lone such range in UK ,if I am not mistaken. The only centre fire rifle made in India has a max advertised range which falls short of it(the 300mtr range).

Shooters are forced to scrounge around for rifles, ammunition and shooting equipement. Most are forced to use second hand stuff that the shooters who have obtained the Renowned shot status(which now would be easier to obtain) and are allowed to import, sell at a hefty premium.Where is India in comparison to a country like China?Indian shooters can only hope to get a sole medal here and there(especially when countries with strong shooting teams are not there.Commonwealth Games being one example). That's it.This would continue as long as we have people who have no interest in the shooting sports are at the helm of affairs(NRAI crooks,I mean).Sticking on only because of the importance and the patronage that it provides.
The NRAI was to encourage shooting in India and this would mean all shooting sports and not just ISSF related shooting sports.
