Springer Vs Gas Ram
Amigos,
I have little experience with gas ram air rifles. Those of you who have experience with both, how do you rate them in comparison with each other? Which one would you prefer and why? Appreciate your replies. Thank you.

The only gas ram I have shot with is the Precihole NX100 model.
Despite being anal about springers and a purist one at that I must say that the biggest advantage is the shorter lock time than coil spring springers. It is short to the point of being noticeable.
Of course obvious application from the Indian context is a .177 cal. Match Springer with peep sights.
Ideal for entry level 10mtr air rifle shooting.
A gas ram HW77/97 or TX200 ? Will definitely get my attention.

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

Hi Vikram,
> I recently acquired Precihole Sports ORION 22 cal fitted with a Gas Ram and till date have shot over 500 pellets...
> In my considered opinion Gas Ram fitted ARs offer the following advantages:
1. The cocking is smoother
2. Quicker lock time - hence faster firing cycle
3. Can accommodate heavier pellets with ease (15gr & 19gr)
4. Consistently accurate with both (gives 1/2" groups at 25yds)
5. Minimal vibration
6. Requires minimum maintenance
7. Gas Ram has longer life (upto 10,000 shots) as compared to spring (5000 shots) both approximate...
8. Palpable shooting pleasure
> Although I own 2 Springers - IMHO I would rate a Gas Ram fitted AR a star higher

Briha
PS: Since you live abroad & have better access to foreign made ARs, you may go in for either a Theoben NP (Nitro Piston) or a Benjamin NP as both these have received good ratings from the AR Gurus abroad.

Re: Springer Vs Gas Ram
Vikram,
I haven't even seen a gas ram air rifle, let alone use one. But from what i gathered from Brihaji's post I can add my observation.
With such minimal vibration / recoil I guess one could use non- AR rated scopes on these rifles. Springers, especially the powerful ones, are very good at ruining scopes.
Cheers. Please let us what toy you bought as your New Year's gift.

Great,
Vikram from what I have studied Benjamin's nitro piston rifles seem to be doing quite well in this emerging market. I am sure you will find the best one for your friend.
Cheers
