Want to ship my air rifles from Kolkata to B'lore

Hi All,

I'm not sure if this is the right segment for this post but I really miss my Air Rifles which are lying idle in my absence in Kolkata for years now. I wanted to get them here at Bangalore but the transport company which got my household goods shipped to Bangalore refused to carry them. I couldn't carry them in flight or train. No courier company whom I've spoken with wants to ship them. I'm sure they're got to be some way (legally) to ship the guns from Kolkata to Bangalore. I just want to know how.

You can carry a .177 airgun with you in checkin lugguage as a special baggage. They charge 5250 per sector. Please carry your state rifle association ID card with you. Anything to add to this good boy mentor

Is there any law which says that you can't ship air guns across the country? Or do you have to inform the cops or someone else if you do? If there isn't, travel by train with the airguns dismantled (at least stock removed to reduce length) stuffed in suitcase with padding (normal stuff like clothes) to prevent banging. Travel normally. Be the "grey man".

Of course, if there is any legal requirement (like for say, vehicles) then ignore the above.

> If you're in Kolkata - Why not contact any arms dealer who normally ship via road transport to different parts of the country?

You can carry it back with you. The courier may not take a weapon of any kind....

Check with Gati Courier. That's what a reputed AR dealer in Kolkata uses to ship all-India. Good luck.

Aimco airgun are shipped from calcutta to all over india via "GATI" surface transport so check with them.

most couriers accept air rifles.i use DTDC regularly.

Earlier this year I'd used GATI (surface) for shipping a friend's air-rifle from Delhi to Bangalore.

I wanted to declare full value, but they weren't willing to accept anything over 4,999/- (declared) value without a supporting invoice & TIN No., so reduced the declared value to the above amount and gave a one page note stating that this is a gift and has no commercial value.

The package was delivered as per schedule, booking date +4 days.

Charges were INR 1,176/-, and one could track the package via their website.

It can be done by Air lines only. Generally they Charge INR5k/- per gun. Kindly talk to them for further clarifictaions. they can send the Guns in Courier also if you provide then the fully packed guns in Gun cases. (like the one comes with Precision SX100)

I am thinking of transporting an Air rifle as well from Delhi to my home town as check in luggage. I am planning to dismantle it & carry it in my luggage. what are the documents required in such case other than declaring the Air rifle & paying Rs 5000/- to the Air lines. any suggestion will be appreciated.

If you fly Air-India AND have membership of a recognised shooting club/ rifle association AND your airgun is in .177 calibre, THEY WILL ALLOW IT FOR FREE! Of course you will need to produce your membership card and show them where the calibre is marked on the airgun, otherwise they will charge 5,000 like other airlines.

Well since I dont have this luxury, I guess I will have to settle down with surface transport (though its 0.177 cal) as that will save me 5K on cargo charge & 5K on additional plano hard case. Thanks alot mundaire for your response
