2.Shooting mechanics –
The "push - pull" grip and stance can be done with an ICOSCELES stance as well which for some is more comfortable and equally effective as the Weaver if done correctly.

This is not relevant for ISSF shooting, Briha Sir as we don't use both hands. Therefore there is no push pull grip. Even the recommended stance is sideways or at the max at 45* to the target. So neither can the weaver stance be applied. Both the techniques that you have outlined are more suitable for practical pistol matches.

Persistently niggling or nigglingly persistent flaw - I continue to dip my foresight post shot break during live fire, though not always. This is in full awareness of the shot. However, this error does not happen anymore during DF. What can I do to get rid of this flaw during LF ? Thx. Regs, A.

Are you relaxing the grip the moment after squeezing the trigger?
Maybe if you keep looking at the front sight and continue to squeeze the trigger, the problem maybe taken care of.

Could not wait - shubhasya shighram - so drove off to the range today afternoon. Contrary to expectation heavy traffic - took me to 2.5 hr instead of what should have been 1 hr. Quite tired by the time I got to the range. Shot a total of 10 shots/card * 10 cards. Carried out BD on the SA "bda", paying of course more attention to the "a". Surprise - 40% times the sight dipped. May be I was trying extra hard. So the BD success was only 60%. Will repeat tomorrow. Good thing was that 70% shots were in desired range. Another one had a set of 10 get 6 shots in a row clustered in #10. Simply means I have my work cut out over next month chanting the famous Jitu Mantra "lage raho". Return time took me 2 hr against expected 40 min due to sporadic traffic jams. So dead tired now - hope to do better tomorrow on. SRUN.

Posting after a very long time. I have recently shifted from DELHI to Rewari (a small town in Haryana) and now daily travel to and fro to Gurgaon which is almost 150 kilometres daily travel. So, taking time for shooting has been a real difficulty these days but I have managed to set up a home Range and now practice at home itself.

Anyways, I have cleared the Services Selection Board(SSB) interview Of Indian Army and will be joining the Officers Training Academy at Chennai very shortly. So, will now continue shooting in Army itself from now on. The sport of shooting has really improved me on a personal front both mentally and physically, and it certainly helped me to clear the SSB this time after three unsuccessful attempts earlier. I take this opportunity to thank you all on TOPS.

hi ALL,

I am fine and have been practicing well. Personal best till date has been 363 but yet to achieve consistency. Eagerly waiting for gun for glory.

TO HVJ1,

Sir, I have been working on new technique where I dont stop the gun completely at aiming area but slow down the gun while lowering into it and shoot just when I arrive at the bottom of CIRLCE. This method has been working well for me but is it right or should I completely stop the gun? But when i stop the gun and then shoot, it lead to shots that are in horizontal direction.


Another thing, is that I have my back become more deep just above the buttock section. This leads to some increased pressure at one point sometimes. Is there any way to reduce this ?

Update -> Following dev's and guruji's advice have taken to active LF and doing BD on that.

The first time it was an unpleasant realization of 60%. But subsequently, I have been doing it the third time now and it has steadied at 70% with the desired shots also in the same range.
#7s have dropped and now only make a cameo.
Also turned into Zimbabwe - "whites eliminated". Hope the landing stays amidst inner black.

There is no single sure shot way to shoot good scores, stick to your style, if it gives you good results then continue, but do not abandon it half way, untill unless YOU are sure that it is not not working nicely.

Yessir hvj1 guruji - good to see steadied landing in the black. Have to learn to coax those errant 3-4 outta 10 into the Inner Council ("Inver Bras" - think it was Fred Forsyth's plot) with the rest. Will get there soon...Inshallah.

Did the NRAI pointer not work out wrt that pistol ? May be you and the good Doc can get together soon and have one designed out of India, what say ?
