i feel it is not necessary if you keep the cylinder empty.

if you leave your pcp for long periods of time in disuse , it is recommend that they are stored with air in the cylinder, this apparently helps to keep the seals airtight.

Disclaimer....I am clueless on pcp's....this advice is from a friend who owns one.

yes,you have keep your cylinder emty.thats why they give a small device to let our air from your pcp when not in use for long time.

The nipple's provided for you to remove air from the cylinders in case you wish to transport the cylinders in confined public spaces where changes in ambient pressure can lead to disastrous consequences. e.g. airplane or sub-terrain tunnels. At 200 bar, the cylinder pressure is about 100 times that of the typical car tire pressure.

As for my AR Daisy Powerline 856 which is multi-pump, it was recommended that it be stored with 2-3 pumps and a drop of oil which would form a protective layer on the seal. Left on its own, I suppose the seal would expand-contract based on surrounding temperature leading to flaws in its structural integrity. Unless the seal is 100% ideal (which it never is), the pumped air would also continue to seep out due to temperature fluctuations, hence "pump periodically". I think similar precaution ought to be taken for PCP with detachable cylinders too. In case they are kept separated from the power plant/ AP/ AR, it might be a good idea to have a thin coating or film of oil (periodically) in the slot where the cylinder fits in, though the gun is stored in "cool dry place" as is usually recommended. I follow this principle in dealing for prolonged period with my multi-pump AR and FWB P34 AP.
