Re: Big bore air rifles
Big bore airguns are very rare since their import in India is restricted and ammo is unavailable.
Sorry mate.
Go get unselfish a npb rifle instead.

I think even if you get a big bore airgun the availability of pellets would be a big issue as only 0.177 & 0.22 pellets are freely available. But India is a country full of surprises one never knows on what could one stumble upon. Even if you end up finding a gun store selling big bore airgun do check the legality issues of it.

Availability is a different issue but till now there is no law that restricts ownership of .22, .25 or even bigger bore air guns. The law only says you can't import anything other than .177 can air rifles and air pistols.

.22 and .25 big bores? Seriously? These two are not banned. They are made difficult to be imported due to the understanding of the customs folks.
If you want to talk about big bore air rifles, please google Quackenbush. I am not posting a link here as the photos they have on their site may upset some people.

Re: Big bore air rifles
If you surf the Indian forums and airgun groups, you will be able to find .22 and .25 airguns for sale between twice to three times the international price. A Benjamin Marauder .25 would be about a lakh or so and a Daystate .25 would set you back at least two lakhs. If you find a source for a rifle, you'll manage pellets too. .25 will cost about 1k to 2k per tin of 200 pellets. So its also expensive to shoot, not just own. That said, the power and punch of a .25 is addictive. It splinters inch thick wooden backstops into matchsticks from 50m.
Calibers greater than .25 would be very difficult to source and are not worth the price and effort. You must remember that as soon as you get into the world of .25 and above, your margin for error is zero. You can kill someone by accident with a big bore air gun very easily.

Can't you cast your own pellets? You guys cast bullets in India, right?
