Dear Guruji & dear friends,

After 2 days of dry practice (Figure 8's), I went to the range yesterday for live FP shooting. The whole day precisely...

- Warm-up
- 20 shots to zero in the weapon.
- Then I shot a half match of 30 shots: 257/300.

Lunch break and bad lunch. Food poisoning from 1400 hrs onwards. I thought of abandoning but continued with occasional visits to the confined place

- 2nd match of 30 shots: 256/300
- Took a long break to rest and started again with matches of 20 shots back to back.
- 1st match: 172/200
- 2nd match: 171/200
- 3rd match: 177/200

I think that the variations are occurring due to variation in grip pressure. Shots are more or less in a vertical line (except for errors) but sometimes small groups in the 8 ring with an occasional 6 or a 7 or two around 6 O'clock, sometimes around 12'Olock in the 7/8 ring with an occasional 6 or two. I find that when the grip is loosened, the shots are going up and when tightened too much, the impacts are down.
Sir, your comments please!

Things deteriorated after that and I had to stay in the range for 2 more hours before trying to return home. Reached home with a lot of difficulty in public transport and went straight to bed...
Today, I am feeling better and had some food in the morning. I will rest the whole day.

best regards

If you eat outside food, be careful of the most unlikely suspect...the onions. Have read that they cause most of the damage.
Hope that you get better soon.

You might like to add short notice trips by road into the interiors of this great country. Three days of travelling and eating rice and sambar and I have unbearable pain in my tummy on the RHS. Have visited the confined place only twice in the last four days and there is a heavy traffic jam of solids and gases in there. Did CBS and USG tests coz symptoms are indicative of appendicitis. Both SEEM to suggest its not the worse but I am still sweating it out till I see a general surgeon.

No Capt. Eziekel for me this year too....... :(

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

Slight leaning may be required to compensate the weight of the pistol. Good question though!

Surprise shot!

1. As children we have played a game where an opponent claps his hand in front of your face. The idea is not to blink! Invaribaly we do because that is a 'surprise' and our bodies self defense response to protect our eyes kicks in, so we blink.

2. Shooters train themselves not to blink in order to keep the SA sharp and clear.

3. in order to get a good follow through, it is IMPERATIVE to keep the SA sharp through out, which includes the clear observation of movement of sights when the shot breaks. If we do that correctly we can 'call' our shots correctly.

4. Now here comes the crucial part; the dilation or contraction of the pupils relay a signal to the brain which controls all the muscles in our body to maintain sharp alignment. In a surprise shot the diameter of the pupil is affected thereby the mind does not get a perfectly sharp and clear picture of the SA. This fuzzines lead to a momentary relaxing or tightening of the muscles particularly those of the fingers, palm forehand shoulders etc.Leading to poor follow through, leading to a bad shot.

5. In your SOA sequence of action which is precisely like those in a set of dominoes, you hit the first chip which falls on the next and a chain reaction follows. In your SOA, there is no chip in the chain which signifies surprise or anticipation. These chips do not exist in the SOA. In other words in your SOA your mind is prepared that the shot will break not in anticipation but on concentration on executing each step of the SOA specifically in the AA. When this happens the diameter of the pupil is unaffected hence all the muscles of the body involved in holding the weapon perfectly steady CONTINUE maintaining the muscle tone before DURING and after the shot. Which is NOT possible in a SURPRISE shot.

Hope I have been able to clearly get across my thinking and experience which has been buttressed by most of you.

Best Regards

Right now I can't do much in the hospital bed. The innards are being set right by the drips and medicines. Missed my Capt. Eziekel again. So here is a success story of someone who is very modest to narrate it himself.

He shot a bronze in this years Capt. Eziekel and also qualified for GVM in 50m prone cat.

The most remarkable thing is he shot with an old FWB Rifle AND Indian KF ammo! !!!

That someone is none other than IFG member Sagar! !!!!!!!!!!!

Very Well Done, Sagar.

Surprise shot continued

Also if you are focussing on calling your shot then obviously you are prepared for the momentary disturbance in the sights when the shot breaks. Otherwise you will not be able to call the shot correctly, if you can call a shot correctly then 'surprise' shot concept goes into the dustbin where it should rightly be confined and also those who advocate the bullshit!

Yes indeed ! :-) Surprise Shot relegates to dustbin. Now that's one less moon to chase. :-)

One Q especially for hvji and brihji - since I suspect the answer to come more out of yogic practices and relative diet.
How does one "cool" down the body from within ?

The reason for asking this is obvious. Any slight upward gradient in ambient temperature unlocks the plethora of sweat floods which undoes everything I have braced for. The more the differential, the wider do open the floodgates. :-(

I know Maharashtrian foods like moravala, moramba, coral-induced gulkand etc. help to some extent but then they are also heavily laden with sugar. Any particular balancing pranayam exercises you can recommend out of experience ? Wondering if I should start experimenting with the chandra-nadi alone ?

Tirpassion,

Thanks for the good wishes. I should be discharged today but have been advised ten days of rest.

Past few days have been interesting to say the least.
Realised what it is to live thirsty and hungry although on iv drips. The first few sips of orange juice and then helpings of otherwise hated dal khichdi were unmatched in recent days.
Regretted not getting wet in the first rains and missing the Capt. Eziekel matches.Had the new smartphone, FB, WU and songs for entertainment. Also had my emotional moments watching a nesting pair of crows out the window taking turns incubating eggs in their nest and getting food for the partner. Even pests are very responsible creatures I experienced first hand.
Ohhhh.... lots more to-do awaiting me when I get home.
As Tarconi said to Frank "It was an interesting vacation"

Hi AGN,
> Yes you are right - Its combination of Yoga & Diet :D

KEEPING BODY TEMP COOL
Thanks to AYURVEDA which holds the key to controlling one’s body temperature as it does contain the secrets to staying cool when the body temperature soars to uncomfortable highs. When you learn what to eat and how to keep physically fit to balance this element, you will feel cooler and more comfortable all along.

COOLING FOODS
Ayurveda attributes this to Pitta. Pitta is made of fire and water, and its qualities are hot, sharp, oily, and light. You can reduce Pitta heat within your own body by eating a diet of cooling foods.

Most people regardless of their constitution will feel more comfortable by following a Pitta reducing diet. The best foods to keep you cool are:

•WATERMELON
•CUCUMBER
•MINT
•COCONUT
•AVLA SQUASH
•FENNEL
•CILANTRO
•ALOE VERA.

It's best to avoid spicy, acidic and greasy foods as they will increase the heat in your body and make you feel hotter.

COOLING YOGA
It's important during every season to exercise regularly, but the type of exercise you do should be in balance with the time of year. During the heat of summer, it's best to swim and do gentle yoga. If you prefer biking and running, try to save it for the early morning and evening when the temperature is slightly cooler.

A lot of people who do yoga should perform specific yoga postures and breathing exercises which are more cooling than others. Moon Salutation is more appropriate during summer than Sun salutation for example. Please check up on this on BVK Iyengar’s website.

COOLING MASSAGE
Ayurveda is big on oil, both internally and externally. Try massaging your body with Ayurvedic oil before bathing, it's important to use oil made with cooling herbs. Especially if you have trouble sleeping because of the heat at night, you'll love rubbing Brahmi Oil made from coconut oil and Brahmi (gotu kola) into the soles of your feet and the scalp to calm the mind and promote restful sleep. You can use it on your whole body as well to counteract summer dryness and dehydration.

KEEPING IT COOL
I hope you try some of these suggestions from Ayurveda for staying cool this summer. Most people, however, will notice a real difference in their experience of summer heat when they take action to keep their internal cooling system working at its best. Also doing Pranayam helps one to stay cool!
Briha

to senior members and shooters,

While shooting, If I lock my knees then I get better stability but knees start to hurt after sometime. And if I dont lock my knees, then my body is not stable. WHAT TO DO?
