Quality, age, history ....... It`s extraordinary how swords like this have such a long provenance. You`ll have to ask the Japanese though to get a more complete answer. The Katana Masamune is better made and obviously more beautiful ( and more desirable to me ) .... and was famous even three hundred years after it was made but is 200-300 years younger.
