TC et al laid the criteria out
OR you can buy IOF 22 find a competent Gun smith work the kinks get a decent ranking nation wide and acquire exemption for Importing one
OR still better find a way into state team and use their Brnos ( dont know how used they are!!) to fire you way in to a ranking.
Not sure whether state associations have replenished their gun stock ?
Brno 2E in Punjab goes Rs 2 lakhs and above Good luck

Re: Pointers While Buying a used rifle
Grumpy, having undergone training under the watchful eyes of one of the best gunsmiths in this part of my country I too was a bit hesitant on speaking too much so kept the discussion at minimum. But I guess both of us have been thinking aloud about the various uses of reamers and cutters
Your worries about people getting carried away and picking up their saws is not really unjustified but I don't think too many of them would be daring enough to take the risk of ruining their weapons.
Regards
TC
Ngrewal,
I really have no idea how many clubs take the trouble of refurbishing their old weapons. Otherwise there is a fine stock of Brnos across various states in India. But I guess your suggestion on going for a new IOF rifle is still the best option.
Cheers

TC, you-so-and-so, I`m having an extreme attack of the giggles now ....... So you let the cat out of the bag re cutting back barrels and now you`re telling people what tools to use. LMAO !
So, for those who really want to know how to repair a damaged chamber or throat you might as well know that it `only` requires the barrel to be removed from the receiver, the chamber end cut-off, the barrel threads re-cut, a new chamber cut and the OAL adjusted. Not a lot of work ..... In the UK that could cost more than a replacement rifle depending on who does the work !

Grumpy you did not leave much for me to add... how to first check the rifle's original specification and keep a note of the number of turns so that ....
No I must shut up now... that much and no more

You are welcome Ajit,
The bottom line, if you ask me, is to avoid buying used rifles with suspicious looks, alterations and modifications.
