I know. It's too expensive.I'm talking about the archer cause it threw an artillery shell over a distance (a mile or 4 miles, i forget ), and the shell hit the handle of a shovel planted in the ground.

It's this kind of pin point accuracy of an ordinary HE round that impresses me.The handle of a shovel.
I would rather hit my target gently than miss hard.

Any howitzer system can do that with laser or gps guided smart munition, and dont you wory we have those, you can even throw a shell through a window 40km away .

I agree with mr puru skyman even an unguided shell can achieve wonders it can destroy a 10/10 bunker by a single hit 40 kms away it all goes back to very accurate calculations lets leave it,its really heartening to see your enthusiasm in modern arty equipments but just dont write off 155mm boffors, its 155/37 now we are planning for 155/45 155/52 and that process has already started and in next 2/3 years we will start having them in our arsenal

Sir, a good weapon is a good weapon. The Lee Enfield or the M98 cannot be looked down on even today. But we must move on to more advantageous ones.

The bofors will do well even in the future. But we must explore options to remain competitive in the field of battle.

And how are we at a competitive disadvantage vis a vis the bofors?

Phew....its hard to make you understand
Lee enfield is a century old weapon bro of the 1st world war era,how can you compare that to bofors, which came out around 1984.. For eg - event the M1 abrams tank which the US army is using is of the same era as of Bofors ,and they are not seemed to be replaced any time soon.

India already posesess guided artillery shells of 155mm krasnopol (russian) for its bofors.
IIRC these did not perform too well. No recent information though - this info is a few years old.

You misunderstand.I say we need weapons that offer strategic advantages. The advantage of being able to land 6 rounds in one go and throwing unguided shells with precision.A bofors gun will throw artillery alright. If you have to move it, you have to hook it up to a truck and peel out.A mounted system can change position, take 15-20 seconds to get a round off, and move again. Can the bofors do that? NO.

Stop believing the bofors is all that's needed. Is there anything wrong with it? No.Are there better systems today? Yes.

Read again.I said a good weapon will always be a good weapon.I did not compare a rifle to a howitzer.

Take a bike like the rx 100.Came out in the 80's and a popular bike even today.Good by our standards.By the worlds? Not so.

You want to use a nuke to shell a bunker?

Yes, put up the bofors against these.Do see what other countries have.

And then accept the need for the strategic advantages these modern systems provide.

What the bofors evolved into.
