Dear Brihaji,
I have passed your test :D
A question for Guruji and you. What is exactly this exercise of CURLs?
best regards

Hi tirpassion,
> Basically Curls are of two types...
1. The Pull Type
2. The Push Type
> The Pull Type is to strengthen one's upper arms especially the 'Biceps' , one does this by holding a pair of dumb-bells with palms facing upwards & pulling the dumb-bells towards the shoulder - here the biceps which remain stretched, contract as in when the arms are flexed.

> The Push Type is performed by holding the dumb-bells at shoulder height and pushing them upwards to straighten the arm .. herein the "Triceps" get exercised.
> Thus by performing both these type of curls the biceps & triceps equally get exercised & get strengthened.
> What I had suggested is...
While performing the Pull Type Curls one should turn the wrist downwards while bringing the dumb-bells down to knee level. In doing so the 'Forearm' receives the benefit of 'Torque' which exercises & strengthens the fore-arm...which is essential for an AP shooter... helps in getting a steady hold while aiming without the fore-arm muscles getting tired...
> Hope you got the drift of what I've said so far... In fact hvj1 was in the process of trying this out...
> You can check with him... to find if he has found it beneficial....

Enjoyed myself thoroughly at the recent MAWC held in Balewadi.

The environment was very conducive for the event but for a few hickups.
I hope I can go there, once a month and practice at the range as its the best there is available to us and it helped me in performing well.
I had resolved that I would focus on my technique and not focus on the score which worked very well for me.
I focussed on my SOA/drill, my NPA and trigger pull. I am now able to identify if my NPA is not correct, adjust my position correctly and hit tens. Was even able to hit tens after rejecting shots which was thrilling for me.

Looking forward to many more enjoyable matches in future.

Areas that need improvement are the lingering habit of taking a shot when the sight picture is not steady or when the air rifle is moving away from the target and sometimes taking too long to take the shot. Boils down to getting in some more discipline.

Areas that have improved are awareness of correct NPA, correct trigger pull, follow through and the ability to call shots.

M.

P.S. : Since hundreds of sports persons and their parents converge at the venue, there is a need for more water in the taps, especially in the toilets and the mess food needs to be better.
As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

Dear all,

1. Removed the rubber strips from the grip as was told that "soft" material is not allowed and substituted M-Seal instead. Did not find enough saw dust to mix in with the Fevicol.
2. Sanded off some of the M-seal "enhancement"; but might have to iterate a bit.
3. Went to the range after a lull of a week since MAWC.
4. For every LF shot did 5 DF shots before. Did two sessions of 20 shots each.
5. Carried BD for SOA - used P-10 for first 20 shots and Amateur for next 20 shots. The reason for this choice is that the shots should not land in set areas to avoid temptation of scoring. The card was pulled back after every 5 LF shots and statistics noted.

Towards the end, statistics noted were as follow:

1. Desired shots (i.e. #9 & #10) = 13/20 = 65% & 12/20 = 60% -> Note that sights were not set; this data is just statistical and inaccurate. As expected grouping occurred below; both the pellets being heavier than H&N Finale Match for which the sights were set.
2. SOA for LF = 35/40 = 87.5%
3. SOA for DF = 83/100 = 83% and 43/50 = 86%. Did not do DF for later half of Amateur as hand had started tiring.

SO while SOA appears to have jumped up, DS% seems to have fallen by about 5%; not unduly worried. Concluded with 100 flagging motions of the left hand.

The above exercise stems from the fact that I needed to get back to the basics and reduce LF to once/week. Over and excessive LF training seemed to have done more bad than good. I peaked during the training only to fall at the actual competition. And can't blame the F or F Syndrome for the buckets of sweating there as I sweat all through the nights too in spite of sleeping on floor under fan operating at top speed. :-(

Oh yeah ! It's tad tough on the palm to get used to the "newly enhanced grip" - it's hurting now. Also noticed that the FS tends to dip after the shot, especially towards the fag end of the set. Subsequent "homework" for this week is holding, F8 and DF. Will visit the range again next week for LF sessions.

Dear Brihji et al,

How right you are ! I am still getting the "hang" of things - hence "jara saa jhoom loon mein...nah re baba nah" :-)

Yesterday worked on the scooter in the sun and lost balance a couple of times. Today once again and so checked the sugar. Turned out I had really turned "sugar daddy" - with scores over 470 mg/dl ! So spent most of the early part of today on medications, monitoring and sleeping till the sugar started falling down and return to acceptable levels. :-) So visited the range in the evening. As I drove, I "revisited" all of last year, especially the tournaments and suddenly it dawned on me that I still needed a bit of work on trigger front. My first pull needed to be a bit longer (lighter ?) and so upon reaching the range opened the grip and sat down with the range's 500 gm weight. Experimented around for about 30 min till I was somewhat satisfied; then went about sanding the enhanced grip till it felt more comfy all around. Might still need to revisit the sanding part once or twice though. Once done, I thought what better way to test my endurance than today when I was feeling so weak.

1. 20 DF with full SOA
2. Shot 4 cards with 10 each - LF
3. 1 LF after every 5 DF - thus a total of 100 + 20 = 120 shots
4. 2 cards with 20 each - LF
5. Holding (Rt hand only) - 20 * count(10)

Free hand exercises for both the arms and breaks were generously interspersed. Used the same pellet combo - P-10 & Amateur as did not want to raise personal expectations.

1. Could take up the strain for the total of 3.5 hr, albeit with breaks and free hand.
2. SOA stayed consistently upwards in the range of 80-85%.
3. DS (without sights set and pellets mixed) consistently stood at 70%.
4. Actually felt fresh & happy while driving back home tonight and found BS <200 mg/dl at 23:30.

Tomorrow plan to repeat with "better" pellets. So going off to  shubh ratri uttam nidra

Hi AGN,

> Please keep a CONTROL over your sugar levels...as it can interfere with your muscular co-ordination, vision & bio-rhythm.
> Try chewing & swallowing a handful of "Methi Seeds" soaked overnight in water + a few "Neem Leaves" every morning even before you brush your teeth. Does a world of good. Some of my friends have been benefited by this - also continue your allopathic medication side by side.
> Cut down on rice - eat multigrain chapatis + sauted vegetables & fat free chaas. Drink plenty of water. Don't forget to do Pranayam.

Hey AGN,

Include the juice of bitter gourd, karela.
Have to dig out an email which had a concoction that cured the Blood Sugar.
Take care.
