Walther lever action

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm a gun nut, especially WWII, American Civil War and the Lever Action Repeater Rifles of the 1890s.
When I joined this forum 2 years ago, I was overjoyed at the amount of information available here, and the friendliness of the members.
It was then that I, to my great surprise, found the Walther Lever Action .177.
I couldn't believe that I actually had a chance to own a working replica of one of my favourite guns ever.
I asked and found out I needed a Rifle club membership to import the piece.

I should add here that I really don't like the spring-powered break barrel airguns available in India,
They are probably the reason I didn't even think of taking up shooting as a sport, as I had a blinkered view and thought that one had to use those guns.
Thus, no rifle club membership.

Now, 2 years later, I've managed to save up for the rifle, only to find out, to my dismay, that the rifle now takes 88g CO2 canisters which aren't available in India.
You can imagine my dejected state.
I was all geared up, and ready to go get my membership, even put up with the spring-powered guns, so that I could finally import the rifle.

My query is this.

Does anyone here own one of these guns?
Are there any adapters available to use 12g canisters with this gun?
Would anyone be willing to part with the rifle, if they have it, especially the 2X12g version?

I guess there's company Bawa Impex or so, they produce 88g co2 cylinders as well

Pardon my ignorance. I have not understood the nature of the problem. Why not simply import an 88 gm canister as well. Filing it should not be difficult. CO2 is big business all over India. Apart from soft drinks it is used by airlines and by doctors in hospitals. Two decades ago I was stuck with medical equipment that had a German non standard CO2 cylinder. A local CO2 supplier got his workshop to make a precise brass adapter to refill the German cylinder. Ask any local hospital where they get their CO2 supply (used in the operating theatre) and find the supplier and ask him.

As far as I know the walther saddle guns use two 12gm co 2 cylinders.

@ dev: you're correct, but that was the earlier version that has now been discontinued. the new version takes one 88g can.

Also, some more help please. I found this on a site which sells CO2 cans.

The older/original Walther lever action air rifle DID use two 12 gram CO2 cartridges but the design was changed a while ago.
88 gram cartridges are disposable and not refillable as far as I know. The rifle ships with one 88 gram cartridge by the way.
I don`t think that it`s feasible to use the 12 gram adaptor as the 88 gram cartridge screws into a hole in the stock. It might be possible to fit the adaptor ..... with a lot of patience and care but then it would be pretty well impossible to fit a 12 gram cartridge to it - there just isn`t enough room.
The Walter lever action is a surprising nice air rifle but expensive for what it is and absolutely gutless - it only allows c.600fps which is around 8 ft lbs ME.

I'm concerned about whether the adapter will fit both in terms of diameter and length.

Also, could you please explain this, as I have very little idea about these terms?

I think you`ll find that all 88 gram CO2 cartridges are the same as they were developed for air rifle use.
It might be possible to fit the adaptor but it will be a heck of a fiddle .... and getting a 12 gram CO2 bulb connected to it will be even more difficult. The 88 gram gas cannister fits into a hole in the butt and is screwed in ....... and the hole is not much greater in diameter than the cannister. You would have to devise some means of holding a 12 gram capsule securely whilst mating it to the adaptor down the hole in the butt.
The 88 gram Co2 cannister will allow about 300 shots. Logically, a single 12 gram CO2 bulb will only allow about 40 shots before you would have to replace it .......and would have to go through the mega hassle of removing and replacing it. I`m sure that there will be a youtube video of the Walther - I`ll try to find one.
Muzzle Energy ( ME ) is, in crude terms, the power produced by a bullet ( or pellet ) measured at the muzzle. It is dependent on the weight and the velocity of the bullet. In the UK an air rifle is limited to 12 ft lbs ME. If an air rifle produces a higher ME than 12 foot pounds it is classified as a firearm. My quick estimation was generous as this Walther produces less than 7 ft lbs which is only just over half of the UK legal maximum.
As a comparison, a .22 lr rifle rimfire target cartridge produces about 100 ft lbs ME. What is probably the most common lever action calibre, the 30/30, produces around 1850 ft lbs ME.
