Nothing really new, but nevertheless worth sitting up and noticing it.

BHOPAL: Illegal firearms trade in Madhya Pradesh is getting more organized as arms licence is proving difficult to get. Now, a supplier takes order from clients, deposits money in the account of arms dealer who later deliver the weapon to client in his city through a middleman or supplier.
Illegal firearms trade in the state has come in focus after arrest of Uttar Pradesh-based arms dealer, Umair Khan from Bhopal last week. Police have recovered around two dozen handguns, bullets and arrested 20 people who have purchased weapons from him so far.

Katana,
It is true worth sitting and watching/reading that now it is being conducted in an
organized manner. don't you think that this is not possible in an organized manner
unless and untill the elements involved get sort of support from so called KHADI DHARIS
and KHAKHIS. as it is, i shouldn't be writing, but these states are full of such an
illegal activities. and at the end of the proceedings against accused, we all know
that nothing wil happen to them and result in zero, and we, moving between the lines
face harship in getting a legal arm license. thanks for sharing information.

I know for a fact that many of these 'arms' find their way into our very own Gujarat. Ahmedabad and Surat are two entrepot centers. The entry points being Jhabua-Dahod belt and surprising the the Dhule border points into Gujarat.

Are these arms country made arms or are they illegally importing arms and selling them?

Katanaji, Is the illegal arms market thriving on criminals alone. Are regular citizens turning to illegal arms as well given it is near impossible for a regular joe to get a fire arm even if the cost factor is ruled out. I ask because of the of the reference made to the arms act. What are the implications of being caught with an illegal fire arm. I mean given the detoriating law and order situation is the need to use lethal force to defend life and propert taking priority over abiding to laws how ever strange or twisted they may be.
Thanks
Moin.

I am from MP and it is common to overhear conversations of possession of country made kattas ..people dont realize the seriousness and in the interiors they brandish the kattas in wedding processions too..i have heard that certain areas where if combing is done would yield truckloads of desis ...

Moin, it's not just criminals who purchase these weapons. Even regular guys from near by districts purchase these precisely because they would be or are refused licenses. Even crudely manufactured semi autos are coming in.
Getting caught with one earns you a 'go to jail' card for free. From what I have heard from the cops grapevine, doles from the courts are 5 years for a NPB unlicensed arm, 7 years for PB or Govt. weaponry and any 'Made in Pakistan' arms( I don't the hows and whys of this one).
