Gentlemen, the leaf spring / file knives will be prone to rust. How do you deal with that?
I normally use the ol' WD40.

The higher the blade finish/polish, the more difficult it will be for rust to take hold. However, rust it will, if you don't keep it oiled. Wipe the knife dry and oil with whatever you have at hand. WD40 does not protect all that long. I keep an oiled patch in a small ziplock bag in my wallet.
I will let Moin wax lyrical on forced patinas.

Please bear in mind that a patina will only retard the onset of oxidation to a slight extent and that the blade will rust if not cared for.
All the best.

its a saw blade knife i made for my mom to use in the kitchen. the patina developed naturally. its given no special care, is washed along with the other vessels and the only precaution mom takes is to wipe the knife dry after washing. there is absolutely no rusting, blackening of foodstuff or sour taste. the advantage this knife enjoys over my other knives is daily usage that prevents rust from building up.
