Mumbai Knives

Namaste/Salam all,

My name is Jaideep and I am currently in Mumbai. I am a knife dealer and longtime collector and looking to buy some handmade knives during my stay here. Going to try and pick up some kirpans and kara in Sion today and heading to Chor Bazaar in hope of scoring some Rampuris (thanks Moin, I've read many of your posts). Are there any other good desi knives around? I am interested in tools as well as weapons. Additionally I'd like to pick up a good lathi while here for my walking stick collection.

please do share your experience, But if you want the highest quality kirpan they are only sold in Amritsar by the taksal (Ask anyone) arms shops.

Welcome Jaideep to the sharp section of IFG. Knife dealer from HK. Thats interesting. What do you deal in. I doubt you will find anything worthwhile in Sion. Ive seen the kripans being sold these days, not worth it quality wise. Rampuris are not sold openly. They are looked down upon by the law, the switchblade types are illegal too so you can expect to be in trouble if caught at the Mumbai airport even in checked in baggage so be careful please.

Where in Punjab would one get good kripans i dont know. AGN was in Amritsar recently and says the market is flooded with Chinese junk. Take a trip down to Rajasthan only there will you find something worthwhile for your collection or resale in HK.

Brihasir you want a traditional kripan, will be arranged. Qualitys iffy. Nanded is where Ive heard good ones arebstill available. Will try and source.

Briha, I do not have a current number as I am only here for a few days.

As for the kirpans, I went to the stores around the gurudwara in Koliwada-Sion, but most were not worth a second look. I bought the ones I thought were acceptable, but much better is definitely available in and around Amritsar. Hopefully I have better luck in Chor Bazaar tomorrow!

Moin bhai ..Nanded has been running dry ...the police are seizing local made beauties , last year some anti - social elements had been accumulating to create trouble . I was there last october what is available is being sold as antique which i have serious doubts

Aah too bad. Thanks Kalashnikovcult !!! I had heard some great things about the Nanded Kripan Factories. Too bad. Please do take some pics when in Nanded next. I am from Vidarbh area but haven't been to Akola Nanded since the last 15-17 years...

Brihaji,
It seems we can never get rid of imitations. This Muela kirpan seems to be a copy of the Victorinox small kirpan that hit the market and controversy about 8 years ago and was called back. I have one in my collection. The grips are exactly the same

First I say sorry to Kalsinikovcult I could not reply to his PM last year due to frequent net problems.Good kirpans are hard to find these days if u happen to meet some good artsian u r lucky .One month back I got a antique Khanda very sharp from A Nihang in Patiala and a saw a traditional bow and arrow made of sarbloh bow was made of steel and nearly 4 or 3 /12 feet long the string was also of steel in bow there was double layer of steel shining like silver the real beauty I want to share with u folks seen in a shop near Gurdwara Dukhnivaran Saheb wHICH I feel will never find such a rare thing 20 inch arrows I could never forget and I tried my hand at bow it takes a lot of sweat of u.I could not sleep after seeing such a nice thing second thing was a spear which can be fitted into a steel bar another awesome but lethal weapon and a small Khanda he told me to strike at a iron rod if khanda broke he would return double the amount.
