A diesel/kerosene bath followed by a wd 40 spray is going to denude your rifles parts of all lubricants and protectants.
Personally, what i did was to open up the rifle and use ballistol oil and spray. Wiped it off and put her together.
Any fluid with ammonia in it should not be used for chrome lined barrels. Check your bottle of hoppes. I am too lazy to use google, just as you. :) but if it does, and i am guessing it does Use ballistol instead.
I was going to convert it into a match rifle. Not anymore.anyway, i dont think its a good idea to have a peep sights on a dovetail fitted on a full bore centerfire rifle. Ofcourse there are more experienced people to give you better advice.
This is just ky 2 cents worth.

Hoppe's as I understand definitely has ammonia. Will look for alternatives. Thanks.

Because of poor off-take of 30-06 rifles read with lack of orders for service rifles the IOF Ishapore is going to reduce the price of 30-06 Rifle in March /April.This is the latest buzz.Well, no smoke without fire.

That's welcome news HKS. Let's wait for the lower priced one.

Poor off take?
Where did you hear that from?
The price of these rifles will only increase, not go down!

I would highly doubt the simple law of economics would apply here. A decrease in price would anyway not lead to an increased demand- considering the limited options around the 3006 would be price insensitive up to a lot more than its current price. At a lower price point the .315 is anyway available.

SS,

The Lee Enfield action on which the .315 is built,is not a cheap one to make. The IOF 30-06 employs aluminium alloy in its receiver which would mean a longer tool life. The machining is also fairly straight forward.Even if you take into account the initial set up cost,if the 30-06 sells for the same price as the .315,the IOFB would be still making a substantial profit.

That other 30-06 rifles in the market are more expensive should not be a justification for profiteering. They are expensive because of govt. policy.

WTP,

The .315 is available at about Rs. 58k while the .3006 at Rs. 91k- IOF website quoted prices. My point being IOF is highly unlikely to reduce prices for 3006 closer to .315 just because of a 'lower demand' for the former. In a monopoly as I understand (which the Indian market more or less is):

1. I would highly doubt the govt would play the price reduction game,
2. Input costs will have no relation to the retail price, the latter almost always being inflated.
3. More importantly - the govt (at least the current one) will NEVER have a policy to BOOST demand of civilian firearms., yet again a reason not to reduce price.

I understand the govt is profiteering- and immensely maybe- but doubt they would reduce the price of the 3006.

In the discussion what is being missed is that IOF Ishapore does not have demand for service rifle. Army has selected to replace existing mainstay with new rifle for which contract is said to be finalised soon as per media reports. When new rifle is inducted then existing rifles will go over to para military forces. This makes the IOF factory sit idle till transfer of technology takes place for local production which will take couple of years.Cost of production of 315 and 30-06 is same.Pricing is as per market dynamics. IOF products are grossly overpriced because of monopoly.

AB,

Does the IOF share the same allen screw as the Sauer 202 in the forend and butt or are these flat head screws? I have the 2011 model and I'm guessing you do too. I attempted to open up the rifle with the right length flat head screw driver but either the screws are rusted or they've changed the screws to allen types.

I've applied some Wd40 on the screws and left it at that for now.

Cheers

Finally figured, it has an allen head with a provision for a flat head screw driver to be accomodated as well.

Has anyone till date purchased the 5 magazine 30-06 rifle? As per my information, the same is being sold separately with the normal magazine at an extra cost.

Ashok,

Are you talking about original Sauer 202? It is far from a failure. One of the best selling premium mass-produced hunting rifles and it has a good reputation.
