Good read, it definitely throws light on the existing issues to acquire a license in India.

Re: Gulf News weekend Coverage on India's Growing Gun Cultur
Rakshit thank you from not shying away and speaking to the gent. He has tried to give a balanced view, but unfortunately is he has taken the antis statements as fact without verifying them. Lets hope the readers are discerning enough to sift through the facts & fiction.
Amongst other brazen statements these LIARS (anti gunners) are saying things like: background checks can't be made till someone is charged of a crime, bloody hell! In which free country is being charged of a crime the same as being a convicted criminal? If that were the case, we may as well throw out the entire system of having judicial courts... I mean, since being charged is as good as being convicted, what good can courts do? Forget the basic premise of jurisprudence - innocent until proven guilty, these antis are worse than a lynch mob!!! Or maybe they really do believe in that Sci-FiTom Cruise movie "Minority report"... lets all hear it for the non-existent 'pre-crime' bureau that these antis seem to believe really exists!
Another gem is their statement about the age for getting a license is 18! What rubbish, pick up a copy of the arms act and read for yourself what the legal age is... they (the antis) obviously don't even think that it is worth their while to know what the law (as it stand) says! Not no mention utter rubbish about AK-47's being auctioned off to politicians & senior officials. I am simply amazed at how these people can LIE so BRAZENLY and then turn around and sweetly tell you that they are doing it FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!
BTW in India, we don't have any 'gun culture' at all. If we did, ordinary citizens would know how to safely, responsibly & effectively handle a firearm and not be getting their information (about guns) from the movies/ media. As things stand today, even our cops can't lay claim to those three basic attributes of a gun culture! >:-/
Cheers!
Abhijeet

Ms. Neparam,
We beg to differ from your views, since there is no substance in it.
My wife was saying yesterday, what if the Delhi Girl who got gang raped recently had a handgun or her boy friend had it.......
Things cannot be settled sitting on a polarized state.
So wake up.

Ehh .. looks like I missed a lot of debate here on IFG after that Sandy Hook incident.
This while I was debating on RKBA at DFI I mean IFG is home turf right, the battle is out in the field there.
It was fun swimming against the tide.
Also getting busy with marriage preparation. My doomsday is on Jan 17th
Take Care

Re: Gulf News weekend Coverage on India's Growing Gun Cultur
Rakshit, thanks for the effort and sharing. But as a journalist and editor I know that making all journalists take a neutral stand is a task of Himalayan proportion and quite frankly, impossible to achieve. Most of them, no matter how qualified or well placed, are idiots as far their understanding of firearms as tools of defence is concerned. We can't really blame them. As Abhijeet has rightly pointed out, there is no gun culture in India. I would like to add a bit. There is an established and well entrenched gun culture in India - by and for those who do not need licenses to carry or kill.
Cheers

TC we need you to spread the word and awareness... May I take the liberty of suggesting that you do a piece on guns and the challenges faced by legal gun owners and how a responsible legally armed community is a safe community....specially in the wake of these recent events...
