Customs officers not clearing imported air pistol
Hello everybody, i had imported a .177 air pistol. I' am a member of State rifle association. i had sent all the required documents to fedex last week, till now it's not cleared by the customs, i called fedex guy and asked him why my package has not been cleared and he told me that the customs are saying I have already imported many air pistols for target shooting so they will not clear the air pistol I have imported now. I have been researching on internet but i don't find any limit on importing air pistols if you are an member of state rifle association, so what should i do now guys. is there any way to get it cleared from the customs?

Re: Customs officers not clearing imported air pistol
no reply so far.
my air pistol is going through deal wood test so could someone please tell me how much more time it will take to be cleared from the customs. it is a bb co2 air pistol with 340fps power, I hope this is very less powerful air pistol to fail a deal wood test

Re: Customs officers not clearing imported air pistol
340 fps is not a power rating, merely the claimed muzzle velocity. Anyhow, these air-pistols are usually rated below 6 ft. lbs of power. It should pass the deal wood test (i.e. the pellets/ BBs shot from it will NOT be able to penetrate the block of wood), without any problem.
BTW, where are you based and which airport's customs authorities have impounded your air-pistol?
Cheers!

Dear Gladiator,
I recommend you to go to customs department on which your shipment came and talk to the custom officer directly. Normally customs people create problem if you have import Air pistol earlier in the same year. You need to tell them that your previous air pistol is not working properly and you have you have ordered the new air pistol. Please also take your rifle association membership card and letter from your rifle club stating that you will be doing practicing with new air pistol.

Re: Customs officers not clearing imported air pistol
@abijeet, im from a.p and my air pistol is stuck in Bangalore custom.
that air pistol does not even produce 2 ft/lb as per pyramydair calculator so that means my air pistol would easily pass the deal wood test.
@hardeep, going to Bangalore will cost me more than the price of the air pistol, I will instead order another one from my friend's id if I need to go there. it looks like my air pistol will be released by the customs.

There's is a certain quota allotted where import is concerned. I'm not completely aware of the number per individual.

Dear Gladiator,
Please call Fedex guy again and tell him to talk to custom officer if they can charge any import duty and release your Air pistol.

Re: Customs officers not clearing imported air pistol
my air pistol is still not cleared by the customs. now it looks like my air pistol is going to be confiscated by the customs. I got all necessary documents but the only problem is that they tell me that I have ordered "many" air guns. I dont know whats gonna happen now, could someone please guide me how to clear my air pistol.

Re: Customs officers not clearing imported air pistol
You could do an RTI asking about the maximum number that one can import and which regulations specify it. My guess is that this number is not documented anywhere and just something a babu made up somewhere.
Just out of curiosity, how many have you imported in the last few months?

There is no legal limit to the number of airguns a member can import - so long as they are for his/ her own personal use (for target practice) and not for commercial sale.

really dont want to be on the other side of the line.
But, if a club member is allowed to import .177 cal AG, How, "for target practise" comes in to picture.
Is there anything in the notification that says target practise?
Regards.

Dear Only32owner,
Yes, the import's allowed ONLY for club owners, who are sport shooting enthusiasts. Its more about the SPORT than a hobby.
Have you been to the shooting clubs? What do club members do? Target practice, right? What else have you seen them doing. Do they allow pigeon shooting at the clubs?
How does it matter if there no notification stating "For target practice"?

I do visit shooting club, sometimes. And for your information I have a well built , very secure shooting range for myself in my home also.
I am not asking about pigeon shooting.
Just asking do the notification which allows me to import a .177 AG as a club member also says same thing about target practice.
Just to enlighten you if you like it, club members are allowed to import, You dont need to be A CLUB OWNER.
Regards.
