This post rekindles a question in me for the masters and the experienced shooters...airgun_novice wrote:So enthused suddenly I became that I went to my range and shot out a 60 (6-card) pellet match. Paper targets, of course. Whatever be the outcome today, I knew my level would only hike to higher plane with time and diligent practice. Rode the scooter and added to the body ache.
84, 85, 87, 91, 88, 85 with 20 #10s and 16 #9s; i.e.60% desired shots. Used MS green box pellets. Will pay another visit tomorrow and do SOA BD and use RWS Clubline.
BTW, @PTKS-II got official score of 336 (had calculated 341 or 342 - only one boundary shot) on the certificate that was kindly delivered to my range. No idea about the breakage of sets.
Among the local pellets, following are available (am not taking into account tremendous, united, magnashot etc)
1. P10
2. Mastershot Yellow Box
3. Mastershot White Box
4. Mastershot Green Box
This has been discussed but still asking for the refreshment purpose.
1. Can we use Indian pellets as above for practice as well as competition?
2. Can we use Indian pellets for practice and RWS/H&N etc for competition?
3. Among the above 4, which one performs the best as per your experience?

Hi Jitu,
Your confidence is really inspiring. All through the posts from the beginning on several occasions, I saw your never say die attitude and that has instilled confidence in me as well. Whatever mistakes I did in the haryana states, I have left them behind and started working on my SOA. And as hvj1 guruji as pointed out in one post, I am grilling the SOA in my sub consciousness with a lot of hardwork and dedication. Hopefully, this new year will bring greater joys to all the people on TOPS here.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Dear friends,
I am humbly trying in this post to explain that the choice of pellet in our level is not a big matter to lose time on. The only question is if the pellet will harm the barrel or not.
Here are photos of 6 cards which I shot on 21/11 with different pellets I have at home; RWS Club, H&N Match Kugeln, JSB pistol & G.Smith P10 courtesy agn.
- The whole shoot took 1 hour 5 minutes for 60 shots without support with 1 seated break.
- No sighter shots
- A few adjustments (windage and height) according to the pellets were made during the shoot.
- The cards were shot according to the serial number and they are self explanatory.
- The errors are neither because of the pellets nor of the weapon.
Now, should we really bother a lot about the choice of pellets? I leave it to your judgement.
Just for your information, I use RWS Club pellets regularly, in practice and in matches also because they are the cheapest of the lot (the prices of the the pellets are also mentioned in euros).
Best regards

Dear Bodhi,
The targets you have downloaded from the rink site can be used for various purposes of shooting. The one you are particularly interested in is the 'Luftpistole' target as you have rightly pointed out. Paste it at a height of 1.4m at the recommended distance.

That is a fabulous explanation and a big thanks for taking time out to explain us so meticulously.
The cards prove it beyond doubt that P10 can score as good as a Match Kuglen or a RWS Club 10 (will pick up a few tins of RWS from you next time I am in Paris).
Now the question which automatically comes mind while reading your post, how to know which pellet will harm the barrel. Is there any experience on that? Does the P10 or the Mastershot or for that any instance any other foreign pellet has a history of barrel damage?

A2. Yes. But you shall need to adjust the sights slightly for every different brand (& sometimes for every different batch)
A3. P10 is supposed to be competition level. But in my FWB P34 I have found MS (YELLOW) BOX better suited in terms of grouping.
However, as Pratik pointed out, MS tends to leave some lead residue - so after every 500, shoot a few dry wads to clean out the tube or use them washed. I have found these to be more consistent in terms of skirt diameter and shape than any other Indian make. The MS GREEN BOX are supposedly "better" but I think they have made these lighter for speed. They are inconsistent in terms of their shape & composition and also tend to fly as they have tiny wings ! Used them with my out-of-box Pegasus (so no break-in or tune-in or settling in to be fair to them) OS on smaller AR targets and was not satisfied. But remember I am more of a AP shooter than an AR... but the tiny wings are a definite cause of concern when you are thinking in terms of accuracy. They may not translate as much on the larger AP target but then why go for costlier pellet with known manufacturing defect when you have the cheaper (YELLOW BOX) manufactured better ? Have not as yet shot out a match with P-10s but in recent past they have come up with P-10 for AP and P-10 for AR - so not sure if it's a marketing stunt or a real segregation on (weight &) quality. Anyway, tirpassion has always been advising that costlier or imported need not necessarily translate into being better and now he's provided 10-shot cards in support. Hats off upacharyaji!

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Doubt is clear.
I have with me 2 boxes of mastershot Yellow and 4 boxes of mastershot whites. Will use them to the full before thinking of imported ones.
Any guidance on how to wash them? Simply wash them off by water or use any detergent?
Guess this should be it : http://www.indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1865

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Dear friends,
There are pellets made of pure lead and there are pellets made with a lead alloy. There are some which are lubricated, some are not. The one made with an alloy with high content of antimony & tin will turn it to a harder pellet, thereby being not very good for the health of the barrel in the long run.
H&N and RWS make pellets with a special alloy well adapted to the barrel. RWS pellets are lightly lubricated for sure. I do not know about the H&N ones. JSB makes pellets out of pure lead and they are very consistent.
Here are the weight variations I found on the pellets.
H&N Matchkugeln: 0.48g very consistenly
JSB pistol: 0.47g very consistently
RWS Club: Between 0.44g & 0.46g (there are variations but that does not matter much )
G. Smith P10: 0.50g & 0.51g (quite consistent with very few variations)
Please know one thing also. Using the same brand of pellet is important because with time the barrel accumulates some healthy leading which is beneficial for the consistency/accuracy of the same pellet which caused the healthy leading. You need to clean the barrel lightly every 1000 shots with a wad but do not clean for hours like a maniac. Thorough cleaning will remove the healthy leading and you will be completely confused why suddenly the weapon has lost it's accuracy.
So taking right care of your weapon is also a part of your discipline in shooting sport.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
hey major thx for seeing the positive side in my posts. one has to have that attitude especially when one is not consistent. if i throw in the towel at the failure then it will be very difficult to continue. hence one needs to have a strong mental makeup for this game. we are still trying to get that mental strength with guidance from the gurujan.
hey tir i am back to the eight ring drill and putting effort for getting the trigger op under control. will let you know the results after a week
agn bahi great snap with rambo, wish i can take the trip to Satara soon
