Dear agn,

the diagnosis is done...
Also planning to meet the good Doc tomorrow to learn lesson or two on trigger unit - darn thing failed at WC when it had tested OK the day before and to get "OK" in time from invisible officials was sheer wastage of time and efforts. Had got it tightened by the guru but then on my own tightened it further "to play safe" and then the problems began. Could never quite get a hand on first pull (which had disappeared) and the trigger break. :-(
Having lost confidence in your usual trigger pull, you kept on jerking all through. So it was more due to a mechanical error which affected your whole system of functioning. Please take good note of the following and act accordingly.

- Never adjust your trigger pull weight barely around 500g (like 520/530g). Why? With temperature difference, the weight may vary. In hot weather, the weight will increase, in cold it will decrease.
- As a beginner, I will suggest everyone to keep the trigger weight nearing 600g.That way, there is no fear of the AP not passing the test. Test failure means confidence broken to pieces. In our level, a heavy trigger weight does not affect the precision in any way if we do our trigger work well.
- Keep the distribution of weight around 350g for 1st stage and 200 to 250g in the 2nd stage. The 2nd stage should be well perciptible to the finger. Keep the 2nd stage weight slightly less than the 1st stage. Never go for a 450g/150g or less for example. Why? If the 2nd stage weight is very light, you will always be very afraid of squeezing the trigger fearing that the shot will go off anytime. When it is perciptble, your confidence grows because you know that you will have to do some work with effort to let the shot break.

My AP has never failed any test till now, be it +40°C in India or 8°C in France (inside a range in Feb'12 because the heating system failed and the outside temp was -9°C), only because it has a heavy weight. I train with the same weight always and at least I can always eliminate one tension from my head.

Your phone kept on ringing yesterday evening. May be you were all out for the festival. Will try today again.

Enjoy!

By the way, what does WC mean? World Cup or World Championship? :D I am still poor in abbreviations :(

I have been a silent reader of this thread for some time now, trying to complete the whole thread. I will come up with doubts and queries as soon as I complete reading the thread properly, and when I'm sure that my doubts are not already tackled with; as HVJ1 says asking a silly question would be better than end up making that silly mistake. :D

I would like to say "Thank you" to HVJ1 for this effort and that you have earned respect for this tremendous piece of work right here. Many thanks to other seniors and contributors too (read Dev, Jitu, Tirpassion, AGN, Brihacharan).

Okay, let me make this short. I have sent a PM to HVJ1 giving my email id for the 'Novice Training Program'. I have not received any reply from him as he is busy or my message might have skipped his attention. I am sure all the seniors have the NTP file with them, so I want to request you all if you could kindly spare the time and send me the NTP. I would send my email id on PM as and when I get the response. I'll be more than grateful. :)

Best Regards
Vikram Dutta
Hi Vikram,

Welcome to the pain. :) I do not know about the NTP, I would advise you to go to the beginning and copy all the steps given by Guruji, on a word file. That should help you a lot, the thread has gone through every aspect of the training in a surprisingly detailed way. These notes can almost be a book.

Enjoy,

Dev

Hi Dev,

You would be pleased to know that I have already made an MSWord file of the lessons by HVJ1 and I'm also in the process of getting the whole thread into my hard disk.. :D

HVJ1 mentioned that he wasn't able to upload the NTP file here, and asked all to send in their email ids so that he could send it across. I am sure Jitu has it.. Will wait for Jitu to respond.. :)

Thanks a lot Dev..

Regards
Vikram Dutta

Fever's gone, but bone joints are hurting. May be it's the "egg-gunya" ? ROTFL Eyes still redden without rhyme or reason but come down to normal when I put a drop or two of i-Tone in each. Visited the good Doc today and had my AP trigger looked at. Also learnt a bit about trigger setting of the FWB P34. And booked the Pegasus which I hope to receive by 9-ratri. Tomorrow plan to visit the range. The drill begins...

Hi Jitu,

Even I had viral two weeks ago. Ok here is what you might wanna do. Get the Ato Z multi-vit, add some eggs to your breakfast and more protein (specially fowl soup). Drinking electrolytes like Enerzal also helps. This should have you back on your feet fast. I shoot this weekend, both Ap and Sp national rules for the Delhi State. Pray that it goes well.

Regards,

Dev

Hello all,

I have recently joined the Veer Savarkar Shooting range here in Mumbai and went through a basic shooting course by Vishwajeet Shinde, where I got introduced to a competition shooting range and equipments. After shooting both the rifle and pistol, I am now inclined towards taking up the pistol as my sport. After going through the lessons by HVJ1, the Novice Training Program and shooting some pellets myself; I have come to a conclusion that the best way to start off seriously in this sport would be to get a gun for myself rather than using the guns in the range. Do correct me if I am wrong.

Now my question is that, I want to buy a ‘Steyr LP10’ but my finances are not ready yet. I have a budget of 50K right now, so I thought of getting a pistol in that range. I would be more than grateful if the seniors would guide me in this regard. I have 2 pistols in mind in that range: the ‘IZH 46M’ and the ‘Air Arms Alfa Proj PCP Pistol’. The grip is an issue in both, however customized grips could solve the issue. I haven’t shot any of them. I suppose the Izzy was shot by many here, Jitu Sati being one of them. Please tell me if it is worth spending the money on any of these, or should I consider buying a second hand Steyr, Morini, Pardini, FWB etc if I can find one, or is there another option. I also considered the ‘Walther LP300 Club’ and ‘Hammerli AP40’, but not sure of their prices.

Seeking the invaluable inputs and guidance from all the senior and experienced shooters here.

Warmest Regards
Vikram Dutta
