I would suggest Bobby Sidhu in Patiala . Meanwhile how about letting the forum know the procedure of procuring a 30.06 rifle from the NRAI ?
best,

Dear Ab sir,
If you want to change the stocks I would suggest buying it from Gill timber's they have very good quality American black walnut, the cost of the wood is equal to Burma teak and has very good grain, and Bobby siddhu is a very competent gunsmith you may avail his services as I believe you stay in Delhi.

Procedure:
1.after getting permission from the police for addition, go to the nrai office.
2. Write a written application requesting them to sell you a rifle.
3.pay the money.
4. They will ask you to get an affidavit, a copy of which they will provide.
5. Take the affidavit and give it to them, take your rifle.
Thats it.
Ofcourse you gotta be a member

Really beautiful,Is that IOF .30,anyways a very nice looking rifle shooter 50,I guess not the ammo looks like .300 win mag.
Thanks Lapua, That is a 9.3 x 62, a very popular caliber in Africa. It is not an IOF rifle, in proper hands I feel the IOF can well match this piece, all this tempts me to try out my hand at the IOF 30-06, where is this Gills Timbers? does he have walnut blanks? are the blanks superior to Kashmir Walnut? I am totally out of date so please enlighten me.
Best Wishes

Dear shooter50,
I thankyou too, I might not be in a position to say if it is superior to Kashmiri walnut,However I think that the piece of wood sent to me from Gill timber's had plenty of grain compared to other walnut wood blanks that i came across.I am sure Kashmiri walnut is at par with the (foreign) ones but as I understand from our experts it is not allowed to be transported outside Kashmir.

I had read an article in an old G&A magazine that was written by the late Jack Lott, his opinion was that the Indian varities of walnut were amongst some of the premium grades available anywhere in the world, I'm quite sure he was referring to the Kashmiri variety in particular. Jack Lott was a highly respected gun scribe and an ardent big-bore nut, so nuff said.

"With solid bullets on heavy animals such as elephant, rhino and buffalo this power is quite apparent but is not so obvious as when soft-nose bullets are being used, say, lion, particularly when is a case of stopping a charge : the .404 will stop him all right, but will seldom crumple him quite so completely as will the .416" -- John Taylor, Big Game and Big Game Rifles, (Ch. IX)

Guys,
I just met up with a friend here at my place who bought a new IOF .30-06. He claims he has some problems with chambering the cartridges with the bolt. He says he has to press the magazine a bit at the farthest end and keeping it pressed, if he latches the bolt, only then the cartridge gets chambered.
Has anyone come across a similar problem like this? Or please let me know how to deal with the same so that I can help him out.
Thanks & Regards,
Vivek

ab,
You make it sound so simple!
Anyway, does one have to be a member of the NRAI or a State RA to buy the rifle from them? Or would they sell to anyone with a license?

It is reliably learned that 2012 model of IOF 30-06 will come with spare 5 shot magazine.Quality control of the rifle has been made more stringent. For those who are in the market to purchase 30-06 should await supply of 2012 production rifle.

Hi HKS,
Thanks for giving us great news on Independence Day. When can we expect to see the 2012 model with arms dealers in the country?
