Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
Let me first try it. Haven't shot with it as yet. Then we'll deal with the muzzle flip

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
.338lapua,
Thanks. I'm a bit fond of all this minor gunsmithy work. The bipod is a Caldwell XLA, not the best quality but it suffices for my use.
BTW, I'd tend to agree with WTP as concerns the recoil lug. This weapon doesn't really need it.
I also saw your video of the .30-06. I could give you a pointer or two about controlling that muzzle flip.

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
Hi,
Sure ngrewal, as I said previously I am still learning,Initially it started with barrel crowning and I got a heavy #@!$% from Mr Mark however I got the point later But with all due respect to Mark he gave me an advice later how actually simple it is to get the crown profiled,Now since I am working in Mumbai and the rifle was in Kolhapur with the gunsmith (400 kms) from Mumbai I was trying to explain what I needed all the way over the phone I never knew till the end about the lug that had been changed,However I don't believe in blaming people as it should be my responsibility to see what is being done. Now since the changes have already taken place I need to see how it shoots.(A very nice individual from IFG explained the consequences of the alteration and was even present while the rifle was being worked upon),He also pointed out to the gunsmith that it was not the right thing to do,unfortunately the gentleman was not aware that I was a member here on IFG ,if he would have known I am sure he would have bought that to my notice. However I will try the rifle out soon and if I find there is something wrong then it will be brought back to the original specs.Initially I planned to take the rifle to peerless however it wasnt feasible(travel time, distance) so I decided for Kolhapur.Secondly as for the stock I got the gist about Gill timbers so approached them and was provided with a nice piece of wood.
Two river's sir,my apologies for over reacting, looking forward for your suggestion's in future.)
Dear Katanaji,
I would really appreciate if you could help me with that,I see that the shots are hitting the the targets towards the upper,The bipods are looking cool on the rifle,I am also planning the rotary bi pod from a Harris.
Warm Regard's

Satik nishana
Tygger ki durust karwai
and jacks your uncle.
P.S. i apologize for the hindi bits. Dont know how to put the stuff into english.
I had this kind of stuff shouted into my ears when i went off to the ranges at 9 years of age.
and i remember i was scared silly and hung onto the carbine as though i wanted to squeeze the living daylights out of it.

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
Seen a lot of modifications but none with the classical stock, does the trigger guard - bolt axis height demand only a Monte Carlo? I have seen Classic Stocks on a Sauer 202 but that's for their big bore rifles
I am sure a 3006 would look more elegant in this configuration too if thats possible.
All the best

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
shooter,
Since it's an aftermarket job, everyone is entitled to have a stock made according to thier measurements, tastes etc., and more importantly, what their wallet permits! I suppose by a classic stock you mean either a straight comb or a hog's back stock. Also the fact that this is an IOF weapon and not an original Sauer, it gives one enough leeway to experiment with it.
Safarigent,
I can very well imagine a NCO strutting up and down bellowing away while you lay prone trying to figure out where the target was!

Not trying to nitpick or be argumentative here, gents.Just trying to exchange views and enhance our knowledge. While I agree that stocks can be made to the measurements and tastes etc, I have to agree with Shooter50's statement. I really doubt if there are any "stock-makers" in India who understand stock-fitting for individual specifications, especially for rifles. I will be very pleased if there is anyone who does.shooter50 wrote:Yet to see an Indian Gunsmith do thatSince it's an aftermarket job, everyone is entitled to have a stock made according to thier measurements, tastes etc.
I had an exchange with the J.Robert & Son's representative on Faceook on this subject just the other day about how a rifle stock is fitted to individual specs for iron sights and optical sights. Very interesting subject and a science and art in itself.
Best-

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
Vikram, the best stock work I have seen so far has been from Bobby from Patiala.Re. making a stock, you will come across a lot of people who will try to put it across as a mysterious art form rather than a set of measurements which it really is.
No it does not. However tastes in stock design in India seem to have been stuck in 70's and early 80's hence the skip line checkering, white line spacers, ventilated recoil pads and monte carlo stocks.Even the replacement stocks that I have seen here, seem to have continued with the excessive drop at the heel of the IOF stock.shooter50 wrote:Seen a lot of modifications but none with the classical stock, does the trigger guard - bolt axis height demand only a Monte Carlo?
